Biography

Growing up in the wetlands of the Norfolk Broads has nurtured a beautifully raw and rural sound for Dove and Boweevil. The escapism of those vast landscapes and never-ending skies beneath which Mark 'Boweevil' Howes and Lauren Dove met to form a mutual, soul inspiring love of the blues.
Mark is a highly accomplished guitarist capable of high energy, earthy, foot stompin' blues from a beatn' up resonator or heart breakingly beautiful and soulful tones that compliment Lauren's breathtaking range and honest emotion that awaken your ears with soaring gospel vocals or sweeten your mood with angelic poignancy.

In 2009 the duo flew to the USA to perform and immerse themselves in the blues and soul of New Orleans, Austin, Nashville, Memphis, St.Louis and Chicago. The effect of that journey had a dramatic impact. Their debut album 'Getting Somewhere' was completed in 2011.
Influenced by their Norfolk homeland and travels to the US, the album is passionate eclecticism of Blues genres from New Orleans Voodoo mysticism inspired by Doctor John, elevations of Gospel influenced by Al Green in Memphis and Lauren's vocal idol, Eva Cassidy with Boweevil's slide bringing close to the edges of the Mississippi Delta.
Dove and Boweevil have earned a fine reputation over the past three years having toured dates blues scene's freshest faces Oli Brown, Aynsley Lister, Chantel Macgregor and Marcus Bofanti.

Both Dove and Boweevil have blues in their bones! Shake it up with a bit of of soul, uplifting gospel and some sweet sultry folksiness. Their aim is to recreate the soul of Roots Music and help bring it to the forefront of contemporary music today.
