"Gene's Interview with The Metal Den"

Rocket: What first drew you to playing music?

Geno: Just the feeling I got from listening to music. I knew that if Icould learn to play the songs Iwas hearing and maybe my own stuff then the feeling would be twice as great and it is.

Rocket: When did you get into playing the electric guitar?

Geno: Sometime around 1991 or '92. Probably '92.

Rocket: Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Geno: Man, this is one of those things we could talk about all night. Just to keep it simple I'll say my biggest influence was James Hetfield and of course Metallica. Johnny Cash would be next in line.

Rocket: Did you ever take any formal guitar lessons?

Geno: Never! Learned on my own. Although Idid take a music theory class for about 2 days. Felt like Iwas being ripped off, so I said fuck this shit. I can wing it from here.

Rocket: What guitars are you currently playing live and in the studio?

Geno: Just my Gibson SG's with the stock pickups. could'nt ask for a better guitar than those

Rocket: What kind of amp rig?

Geno: I've got the Crate Blue Voodoo running through an old ass but yet awesome ampeg 4x12 slant and a peavey straight 4x12. pretty simple setup. Just the volume pedal and dunlop wah.

Rocket: Who are some of the metal record labels that you respect today?

Geno: You see, I grew up listening to a lot of bands that were primarily on Roadrunner. Honestly though, I don't pay attention to the whose who and on what label shit anymore. I've seen so many labels jump on a certain sound and find every band out there that sounds exactly the same and then run the shit into the ground. Not my cup of tea, man. Gimme something I have'nt heard before

Rocket: Right on. With all the killer metal album released in '07, which one was your personal favorite?

Geno: So many... but the right now it's the new Down album

Rocket: I like to have fun with this next one. What's the funniest thing that's ever happened to you while performing on stage?

Geno: Never really had that. It's usually the stuff that happens before or after the stage

Rocket: So what are some of the upcoming shows for your band?

Geno: Nothing is scheduled at the moment. Right we are focusing pretty heavily on writing new material and hopefully getting back in the studio before the end of the year. - Rocket

Bio

Formed shortly before Y2K Downbreak has been on a path of tonal destruction for several years and has never looked back. From the soothing to screaming voice range of Jarret hodge to the pummeling drums of Tony harp and the melodic grooving guitars of Gene Rice and Shaun Blanton this one band you dont want to miss out on. combining all of their influences from machine head, down, led zeppelin and even avenged sevenfold to get their sounds the band takes it from zero to sixty in .02 seconds. the band has several east coast tours under their belt and have opened for high on fire, goatwhore and ministry. this is one live show you do not want to miss.
