Boy we sure have come a long way in hard & heavy rock since Black
Sabbath…especially Master of Reality, an album that will remain on my top 10 list of hard pounding guitar based rock for the rest of my life. Over the years, many bands have kept that tradition of music alive and have enjoyed much success with such talented greatness. If Ozzfest scouts are on the lookout for new acts to join in, they should consider Downcore who has just released their debut CD. Downcore is a couple of guys writing and playing their own creation of Progressive Alternative Metal and chasing that musical rainbow, hoping people like their music. Jimi Jaymz - Lead Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards. Jeff Maunus - Bass, Drums, Pads, Vocals. In order for the band to complete itself with a line up for live performances, they added a drummer and are on the hunt for another guitarist. Downcore opens with the dramatic Black Afghanistan / Fade Away instrumental intro and breaks into a hard melody that makes you anticipate a live show. The Fallen is an
instrumental with a very original heavy guitar progression digging at the soul. In Unholy War, there is a specific shout out of respect to the troops that lay their lives on the line, all over the world, day in and day out, in the name of freedom, standing our ground we will
not fail or falter. The CD closes with the poetic Hemp. A tune advocating the many uses of the infamous plant species… Hemp is food, hemp is clothing, hemp is medicine, hemp is paper, hemp is oil, hemp can be 10,000 things, hemp can help our farmers, baby. Even though millions of people are aware how it can save the economy and create jobs, the chant raves on – hemp is still illegal - hemp is still illegal - hemp is still illegal.
Downcore was produced by Jimi Jaymz, Tim Bieder, and Jeff Maunus and recorded in Maunus’s studio in his basement. It was finished
and mastered by John Luttrelle at Eriebrick Recording Studios. “Our music is original, fun and from the heart. Too many people out there
try to be like...sound like...and try to copy others. Downcores’ goal is to be ourselves and try to put out clean sounds and rock like MADMEN!!!!!!” they exclaimed. Overall, Downcore is good hard rocking alternative metal CD with good songs and lyrics and some wild guitar works by Jaymz. If you’re one looking to keep the sounds of Black
