Bio
The Down Home Boys are a fun-loving prairie-urban fraternal foursome who conjure the rustic riffs and grinding grooves of yesteryear. While proudly rooted in the desolate traditions of South Saskatchewan bluegrass, the Boys are ever-poised toward the wild abandon of rock and roll. Their 2008 formation as a roots music trio featured golden-throated peddler Brandon Wright (vocals, guitar), thrifty drifter Erik Mehlsen (vocals, banjo), and classically-trained Tetris champion Danny Jones (upright bass), garnering them an early reputation as a wholehearted and steadfast party band. The release of their debut LP, It’s All Down Home from Here, in 2010, cemented a traditional string-band sound that soon gave way to outside influences, from the manic skiffle of the fifties, to the unshakable rock grooves borne in the turmoil of the sixties and seventies. In 2012, the band captured lighthearted and whimsical drummer, Brian Warren, bringing them indelibly closer to their dreams of musical completeness. Their current studio effort, Poised with Pride, released may 2017, lays out a fine charcuterie of suavely-crafted but vigorously recorded rock and roll moments as a series of successive songs.
