"Letter of Recommendation from The Blue Gator"

To Whom It May Concern:

Kelowna's home of live music, "The Blue Gator" has been very fortunate to have Downhome Dave and the Dynamite hosting its very popular Sunday Blues Jam for the past year and a half. Dave's accommodating attitude and the band's skillful playing make jammers and dancers welcome alike. Their Friday/Saturday performances have generated considerable sales as he has developed a very loyal following. The patrons tend to stay until closing due to the fun and danceable style the band has. An up tempo rhythm and blues combo that we highly recommend for any occasion.

Yours in Hospitality

Bio

Downhome Dave has joined the ranks of some of the finest overblow harmonica players going. A shining example that “dreams don’t die; they just intensify”. Influenced by original icons such as Little Walter, Big Walter, Paul Butterfield, James Cotton, and William Clarke; Downhome Dave has also allowed the influence of the more modern masters of the 10 hole harp (Howard Levy, Carlos Del Junco) into his playing. His repertoire spans all forms of blues, to rock’n roll, and Jazz.

Ask anyone who has heard Downhome Dave; his vocals sell the song with the timbre and emotive properties of a top seasoned professional. Vocally he has been described as bedroom smooth with the available grain soaked growl necessary to sell the blues. A perfect sound for discerning audiences of blues based music today.

The band also features Dean Singh one of the finest bass players in the business. Recently Dean has been awarded the title of Master of Blues, Funk, R&B, Disco from the Order of Celestial Musicians. Fortunate enough to have come from a family inundated with professional entertainers and musicians his influences were close at hand. Comfortable and proficient in all forms of American Classical music(blues, rock, jazz, country) Dean will tell you everything comes back to the blues. Early bass influences included, Ray Brown , Charles Mingus, Paul Mcartney, Jaco Pastorious, Larry Graham, Anthony Jackson etc. Dean along with drummer Scott Grant create a rhythm section that rivals any.

Dana Barnes has been a professional musician for over ten years honing his skills as a band leader on a cruise ship with Princess Cruise Lines. Dana's keys add that signature touch to each and every song and is an integral part of the Motown stylings of the band. Dana is comfortable and sings like a bird in a back up or lead role.

Jimmy Butler has created quite a following in the local area for his tasty guitar. He took both piano and guitar lessons when he was 8 years old. He will never forget his first Assembly Day concert in his elementary school’s auditorium. He and his fellow band mates, all in grade six, performed Kansas City, Love Like A Man and a very hip version of Mary Had A Little Lamb (folks this was way before Stevie Ray Vaughan’s version). He says, “The kids got out of the chairs and clapped and cheered like we were the Beatles.” In his teens and early twenties he attended music programs at Capilano College and Vancouver Community College. He performed and recorded with numerous rock, blues and jazz ensembles

Scott Grant has been drumming for as long as he can remember and can honestly admit to never having a regular day job! This professional seems to tie everything together at every performance. Watch out for those flying drum sticks!!
