"Creative Loafing Soundmenu 2/7/2007"

Atlanta jazz ensemble dp3 wields a pastiche of spacey and chaotic horn blasts over funky rhythms to forge a noir, sci-fi soundtrack to the greatest Philip K. Dick stories you've never read. The moods of the music rise and fall as each song unfolds like tales from a post-apocalyptic "Hotel California," where each and every room tells stories of deceit and retribution.

-Chad Radford - Creative Loafing

"Creative Loafing Scene and Heard 6/14/06"

"...when I arrived it was the soundtrack of my own personal hell: jazz (courtesy of local act dp3, with each member taking several minutes for long solos)...I hid in the bar because I couldn't stomach the noodley sounds in main room."

-Fredrick Noble - Creative Loafing

Bio

dp3 started in 2004 as a project to incorporate electronic effects over standard jazz trio arrangement (trumpet, bass and drums). Originally intended to be a "wall of sound", dp3 began writing more jazz-oriented material.

Within a few months, dp3 added former Changelings violinist Paul Mercer who brought an array of electronic textures and middle-eastern styles to the band. The band has since evolved into improvised music featuring solid drum and bass grooves with sonic atmospheres and memorable melodies.

dp3 has also performed live in the PushPush Theater with Collective Works for "aWake with Robert Anton Wilson" and has also scored the soundtrack for "The Life and Death of 9413, A Hollywood Extra" released by Kino Video on their Avant-Garde 2 DVD collection.

dp3 is often accompanied by Atlanta hip-hop freestylist Zano, as well as a number of other guest musicians. This flexibility allows the quartet to offer the audience a diverse musical experience that bands rarely offer.
