"EXCLUSIVE: Drag-On Returns With More Fire For A New Generation Of Fans"

At the turn of the century NYC rapper Drag-On was a member of one of the hottest crews in Hip Hop. The Ruff Ryders, led by Darrin “Dee” Dean and Joaquin “Waah” Dean, was dominating the charts and the radio with Top 10 albums like DMX’s It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot, Eve’s Let There Be Eve…Ruff Ryders’ First Lady, The Lox’s We Are the Streets, and Drag’s Opposite of H2O.

Drag-On especially separated himself from the pack with the Juvenile assisted “Down Bottom” off the Ruff Ryders’ Ryde or Die compilation. He would eventually drop another LP, Hell and Back, under the imprint and later the independent project Hood Environment. Soon after that release, Drag signed a deal with fellow original Ruff Ryder member Swizz Beatz’s Full Surface Records which ultimately ended as well.

It has been 8 years since Drag-On’s last official studio album, but the 36-year-old head of the Hood Entertainment record label is ready to return to the music scene in a major way. After keeping his fans fed in recent years with a series of mixtapes, 2015 has seen Drag put in work with the autobiographical cut “Say Something” and the rapid-fire single “NRG.”

In an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Drag-On discusses his new music, his departure from his old camp, and which emcees are providing him with inspiration to compete in the game. - Yohance Kyles (@HUEYmixwitRILEY)

Bio

DRAG-ON

Hailing from the infamous birthplace of hip-hop, the Boogie Down (Bronx, NY)

Rapper/Actor Drag-On has used his intrinsic talents since the age of
8, when he began penning his rhymes.  He steadily kept building his
creative craft and ultimately blazed onto the hip-hop scene in 2000, as
one of the original artists under the renowned Ruff Ryders Entertainment
imprint, via which Interscope Records released his debut album, called Opposite of H2O.
That CD solidly established his place in hip-hop, debuting at #5 on the
Billboard 200 chart, selling over 500,000 copies and earning a Gold
certification from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).

Drag-On’s sophomore album was the Virgin Records release Hell and Back in 2004.  When that CD failed to perform like his debut one, and he departed Virgin.

Then, in 2007 he signed a recording contract with his longtime
friend and former Ruff Ryders labelmate Swizz Beatz’s Full Surface
Records.

The acting bug bit Drag-On in 2001, and he has demonstrated his cinematic strengths by appearing in the films Exit Wounds (2001) and Cradle 2 The Grave (2003), both of which starred his former Ruff Ryders labelmate, rapper/actor DMX.

Drag-On began his own record label in early 2014, called Hood
Environment.  The debut offering from his label is his Summer 2014
single, “It’s A Movie.”  These days, Drag-On lives in the studio, honing
his expressive hip-hop chops.

Like his name looks, a dragon is a strong, powerful, mythical
character.  Somewhat of  the same can be said for Drag-On – he’s strong
and powerful, but make no mistake about it, he and his considerable
talents are no myth – he’s as real as they come.  Don’t sleep on
Drag-On.
