"Get Dance Floors Moving"

"Running Hot" is a collection of tunes made to get dance floors moving everywhere...incorporating elements of rock, '70s funk and soul, as well as flourishes of electronica - with the title track as a perfect example of how to make music that's as fun as it is exciting.

Bio

Dr. dFunkt has a sound best described as funk with a twist. It is a collage of singer/songwriter Kamran Abdi's influences which include Prince, Jamiroquai, Stevie Wonder and Guns N' Roses to name a few.

Based in Toronto, Dr. dFunkt is one of the new and few Canadian acts producing original funk music. Dr. dFunkt has released two albums, Nuerotik (Nov 2004) and Running Hot (Sept 2006), and are set to release a new EP in the fall of 2008. The title track from Running Hot was nominated for Urban Single of the Year at the 2007 East Coast Music Awards. Where the songs on Nuerotik were loop-based eloctro-funk, Running Hot delivered a live-off-the-floor funk-rock masterpiece. Still the common thread is the tastefully catchy musicianship of singer-songwriter Kamran Abdi. Dark basslines, funky guitars and soulfully melodic vocals are a Dr. dFunkt trademark.

Dr. dFunkt has had some extraordinary musicians grace its line-up. The current line-up includes: Oli Jones (drums), Jerrod Watts (guitar), Chuck Warren (bass), and Kamran Abdi (vocals and guitar). Their legendary 2 hour sets are fast and furious and most of all funky.

And lastly, thanks to the work of Halifax dj/producer/label Chris Matheson, Kamran Abdi's vocals are being reworked by talented and established producers from all over the world including Matheson and Deemah (halifax), Onionz (new york), Joshua Collins (san francisco), Tony Senghore (stockholm), and Magik J (new zealand).
