Dread Face was formed in the year of 2008 by musicians with more than 10 years of experience from different bands of the local Rock Scene in Guatemala. The band saw the union of Jorge Pivaral (Drums) and Mario Ricardo Lopez (Guitar) (both from the ex metal outfit Disel) with virtuosity of players: Hector Picon (lead Guitar) and Christian Orellana (Bass), with the dwelling vocals of Chrisian Vanderberg (from the local act Pusher); whom came together to form a new music band with the intention to write ¨ heavy riff-driven¨ rock music.
And so by the narrowing the melting pot of the band’s common influences; the band starts to define its genera of music as ¨Hard Rock/New Metal¨: as defined by the heavy rock acts like: Tool, Metallica, Pantera, Rage Against The Machine, Filter, Deftones, E.X.T.I.N.C.I.ON, AC/DC, among many others.
After the establishment of this common ground the band sets to write their own songs and fill in the set with a few cover songs. After working on this for 8 months the band parts ways with Christian Vandenberg who still collaborates with melody and lyrics for the son ¨Damn the river¨, but decides to leave the band to pursue other personal interests.
Once the band has parted ways with singer Vandenberg, Maury Orosco (a member of local act Stygma and Electrodomesticos) joins the band and further writing begins, and covers are dropped from the set.
Maury’s melodic style of singing further shapes the sound of the band defining the bands unique blend of melody over a super heavy, but yet at times melodic rhythmic section, which adds to the whole sense of epicness that had been forming in the band’s musical direction.
Maury collaborates with the band and gig’s with it, for the following 9 months until they both decide to part ways do to creative differences, and local melodic über-gifted singer Rodolfo Rodriguez, joins the band and becomes the perfect fit for the band’s then developing style.
And so from this collaboration, new songs, and the band’s direction is furthered sharpened into it’s intense, driving sound, with which the band win the hearts of local rock fan’s and propels it’s first single ¨Villain¨ into the top 5 of local rock radio ¨EL Circo del Rock¨, which stay’s there for 3 months, and helps the band land gigs, at local Heavy Metal festivals: ¨Nu Metal Live¨. Opening for touring bands ¨Skept¨, and Paynfull.
The bands great reception on this event’s helps the band play on the second edition of the festival opening for local star touring band ¨Toba¨, and its massive success with the audience, owns the band the headlining position for the festival’s third edition.
After, this success with the local audience, the band set´s to open new markets and go abroad the boarders of it’s own country, to play in ¨El Salvador¨, with ¨Victoria Clemm¨ a Metal Core outfit highly successful in Central America, and furthers the promotion on the region of the bands trademark brand of metal.
It is so that after developing and refining it’s style, the band begins heavy writing and preproduction for the band’s debut record in early 2010. After this the band hit’s hit the studio and record it’s self-produced, debut album, which is expected to be released in February 2011. As of now, the band is preparing to promote it’s second single ¨Damn the river¨, hitting regional radio station’s in November 2010. And scheduling it’s local and international promotion for it’s debut album simply titled ¨DREAD FACE¨.
