Dream Gates Family

D.D. Hazy and Rapper first met at a Taletso FET College, Lehurutshe campus. The foundation stemmed from ciphers around the campus. The most prominent rappers and singers Hazy, Rapper, Western Bakae, Crazy Miss T, Venom and EmJay Sizwe formed a musical ensemble in 2010. When Western Bakae left, Sizwe’s former school mate, Axetraordinary, joined the ensemble, which was originally named Dream Gates Productions. After some hip hop sessions and gigs, the ensemble recorded several tracks for a possible mixtape project that was postponed due to financial constraints.

The ensemble’s name was later changed to Dream Gates Family which was purposely taken from words that defines aspirations, opportunities and relationships often used metaphorically to refer to the daily struggles and hustles in the ghetto. Dream Gates Family, while a name sometimes credited to the ensemble, also refers to a number of artists affiliated with them (Story Tellers, Ghost Child, WiseCorner Reloaded, Kwaadrat, K.O.L Music (Lesotho), Kilogram, Killashow and Street Ekonomiks (Botswana)).

The ensemble soon changed musical direction, and had announced the release of their first Hip Hop mixtape, “The Dream Gates Show”, in late 2012 under the guidance of “Against The World” producer SPHilanderer. Although the album did not contain overtly political messages, there were still political intentions. The mixtape features hits, “Maftown State of Mind”, “Revelation of a Troop”, “Axe Got The Potion”, “We Are Kings”, “Freestyle”, I Am Hazy and “Against The World”, but is yet to gain little mainstream attention, despite earning plaudits for its artistic quality and innovative use of electronic production to lower break-even point.
