Bio

With every new band proclaiming they are different from the others it is hard to know what to look for in a screamo band now-a-days. With endless blast-beats and the same riff pile-drived into our ears I am happy to say the end is near, on the forefront of this movement is home grown Dreamer. I recently saw these guys on the 23rd and let me tell you, I have not seen such an energetic group of young men who also contained the same amount of talent. From Gabe’s outrageous bouncing off the walls and low squats to put Attack Attack! to shame, to Paul’s vocals hitting you directly in the soul, Dreamer has what it takes to get signed within the year.

Just starting in August of ’09, Dreamer just entered the studio with Tim Lemos (myspace.com/timmakesphatbeatz) to record their six song EP. No exact date for release has yet been mentioned but guitarist Steve Burns stated “It will most likely be around the end of March / beginning of April.” He also shared with me that they will be also doing a weekly video blog while in the studio to update everyone and to give an inside look at their songs which will be on the EP. Dreamer is also in the works with a few big bands, from the Sunshine State, on performing a Haiti Benefit show around the end February. But no other shows for a bit due to recording of their EP, they do intend to go on tour after release though.

When I got to ask these guys questions, Burns told me about how he was recently hit by a Crohn’s disease, an inflammatory disease of the intestines. He stated “I barely had the energy to play shows, and it was really scary. It wasn’t until three weeks ago that I got a new treatment for this disease and my health started coming back.” During his ordeal Burns lost seventy pounds and almost his life. With his health on a steady recovery he can not wait to get back on stage and thanks his band mates for sticking through with him during his time of need.

Burns’ advice for any new band: “Just make music from the soul, don’t worry about what people are going to think of it, just make it for yourself. Music is an art and we (Dreamer) are the artist, and an artist must be ruthlessly selfish. You have to make art from the soul, and not worry about what other people are going to think of it.” And you can bet that Dreamer makes their art with their soul, from the content of their music, to the stage performance they put forth. Dreamer has what so many bands wish they could hold, soul.
