"August Burns Red"

Last night Club Retro hosted one of the best metal/hardcore shows of the year. It was on a Wednesday night yet that didn't stop over 600 people making it out to see the show. But have no fear, I have you covered with a play by play of the show.
The show started with Dressed in White, a local Sacramento band made up of members of The Earth Shall Mourn and Illuminate. Their songs were a mix of brutal and melodic metal riffs with hardcore breakdowns. The entire band was on the same page and never missed a beat. They were the perfect local opener for the show. I will be looking forward to seeing them this Friday August 25th at Studio 21 in Rocklin.
Next on the bill was Impending Doom, a southern California death metal band, that took the stage going 155 mph and didn't stop until their set was up. Their detuned guitars and neck breaking riffs made the room feel as if there was in fact an impending doom on the horizon for everyone.
My Children My Bride, from Alabama, took the stage next. When they took the stage I was super skeptical just because I have never heard them before and they seemed a little cliche. Boy was I wrong. These guys tore the stage apart. Every song was perfect and not cliche in the least bit, but very individual and original in their own respect. this was my first time seeing and even listening to these guys I was so impressed that I bought their album album. I suggest you all do the same.
After My Children My Bride Massachusetts hardcore band The Acacia Strain. These guys set the mood for the rest of the night. There tunes were heavy and brutal. These guys had the best crowd interaction of the night. The lead singer, Vincent, had the crowd in the palm of his hand. He would yell out to start the circle pit or to jump to the beat of the song and the entire place did as he said. In my opinion this was the craziest set of the night. The crowd was feeding of the band and the band was feeding off of the crowd and created this energy that is just unheard of. The Acacia Strain nearly stole the entire show with their performance.
Then the entire room was being filled with smoke from a smoke machine and the entire room looked as if they were sardines crammed into a small can. The lights went out and August Burns Red hit the stage to over 600 people yelling and cheering them on. The band played for about 45 minutes and used every one of those minutes to rock out the place. They played a couple songs of their new album, Constellations, and the majority rest were older more familiar song that the crowd knew. The crowd was going so insane that one of the crowd barriers broke during their performance. I was surprised to see how much band and crowd participation there was going on between the two. The singer at one point apologized for being under weather and offered a warning that he may throw up, the crowd let out a very supportive cheer toward the lead singer for performing while being sick.
Out of 10 I give this show a solid 9.

Bio

Sacramento’s, Dressed In White (Jeff Engelage – vocals, Jason Alves – bass, Jonny Reeves – guitar, Josh Reeves – guitar, and Ryan Haugh – drums), formed in early February of 2009. From the get go, they made it clear that they were going to do everything in their power to spread the love of Jesus Christ. They have gone through a few member changes, and have finally come down to the five chosen to proceed with this ministry that is prepared to do huge things. They will be entering the studio in early 2011 to record their second EP with the confidence that this will project them to the next level. Although they have played many shows with touring bands, Dressed In White is currently pushing to play in areas outside of their local scene. They are willing to travel and to tour letting anyone who will listen know about the truth.
