"VOTED BEST SOLO ARTIST 2012"

Drew Tillman was voted Best Solo Artist of the Year by the people of Tallahassee. - Tally Awards 2012

"MUSIC ROUNDUP"

Item 2 on my agenda today regards local musician Drew Tillman, who has entered an original song in a songwriters contest for inclusion in the upcoming movie "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World."

It's a multi-level competition that's a little bit confusing to explain, but Round 1 involves friends, family and fans voting for their friend/brother/favorite musician's song. The Top 100 songs go on to Round 2, where a panel of judges pick eight finalists, who then make a video of themselves and clips from the film, after which the competition moves through two more rounds before a winner is declared.

So far, Tillman has been climbing up the ranks in the Top 100 and earlier this week was positioned at No. 31 (out of thousands of submissions — pretty impressive, eh?). There's still time to vote before the cutoff at midnight Saturday (i.e., at the break of Saturday, as Friday, i.e., today passes into memory). You can vote — once only per person, please — by going to www.indierockvstheworld.sonicbids.com. Type "Drew Tillman" in the "find a band" box, which will bring up his page. Then click "Vote." - Kati Schardl - Tallahassee Democrat Limelight

Bio

Rock with a hint of the blues is the best description of the music of singer/songwriter Drew Tillman.  Raised on the music of Bob Dylan, the Beatles and BB King, Drew's love for writing and performing took hold an early age.  He asked for a real guitar, not one of those kiddie guitars.  He got his wish, took his first guitar class, learned all the chords before the teacher had finished the first one and was on his way.  Drew studied classical guitar at FSU under the guidance of Bruce Holzman but left school to pursue his true passion of writing and performing his own music.  In 2013, Drew performed over 150 shows, more than half of those shows were in Destin and along the 30A corridor.  He has been a regular performer at the Mattie Kelly Arts Festival, the Seeing Red Wine Festival and is coming back to the 30A Songwriters Festival for his fourth year.  He has also performed at various festivals in Nashville and the famous Bluebird Cafe.  The Drew Tillman Band's newest acoustic teaser release (a prelude to the full length album) has been played worldwide via internet radio from the United States to Russia and all points in between!  Drew was voted as Tallahassee's favorite solo artist in the 2012 Tally Awards.  For more information or to purchase a CD, visit  http://www.drewtillman.com.

Other songwriter highlights include performance on Pensacola's Radio Live (a live NPR broadcast), Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival, Nashville Songwriters Festival, Bluebird Cafe, and winning song in the Songwriters of the South..
