Drew

BandAlternativeAvant-garde

My passion is songwriting – I've been writing for more than 30 years. For 15 of those years I was a performing artist. If you are a performing artist/agent/manager looking for fresh new material I think you will be happy with what you hear and may even find a few commercial treasures.

Biography

I began playing and writing music in the late 60’s. After performing in various R&R bands through high school and college I went on tour in the 70’s with a band called Mirkwood (named after a forest in a book from Lord of the Rings). During this period I opened for numerous acts throughout New England on and off the college/nightclub/concert circuit including John McGloughlin & the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Steve Goodman, Livingston Taylor, comedian Robert Klein and many others. I was also featured as lead guitar player for the C&W band Billy Ray and the Virginians.

In the late 70’s I was introduced to Pete Seeger and helped to develop the non profit environmental organization Ferry Sloops. As president of Ferry Sloops I produced and performed in many concerts while raising money to build the environmental ship Sojourner Truth on the Hudson River. The ship was built over a seven year period and during that time I produced and performed in concerts featuring artists such as Pete Seeger, Tom Chapin, Tom Paxton, Don McLean and others. During this time, I was instrumental in convincing the Mozart Concertina Organization to open their theatre to musical acts and this resulted in a popular new venue called the Tarrytown Music Theatre in Westchester NY.

After the Sojourner sloop was built, I moved on to perform with Riverrun which was named after one of the largest ‘used’ book stores in the US where me and many of my friends gathered over the years in Hastings on Hudson NY to share songs and tales. For a few years on any given evening you might have found the likes of Pete Seeger, Jerry Silverman, me and other musicians picking and grinning with a dozen or so other musicians. The instruments could include everything from electric & acoustic guitars, stand up bass, banjos, the saw, keyboards, mandolins and percussion instruments - trying out new songs and playing the classics.

My passion is writing music – something I continue to this day. I am a songwriter and I've been writing music and songs since 1964 when I wrote my first song ‘Railroad Track’. My early influences were Mo’Town sounds, Wilson Picket, early rock & roll, the Beatles, Brian Jones’ era Rolling Stones, Dylan, Clapton, Randy Newman and innovative country rock. I moved from there to study and be influenced by classical music. From there I rounded out my sphere of inspiration by performing with some of the most renown American folk artists. I guess that's why I've written songs in all genres including rock, country, blues, popular, and classical. My song titles include country sounds like “That’s what I get For Loving You” and “Sweet Virginia”, rock sounds like “I’d Be A Fool To Love Her” and “Watchagonnado”, standard sounds like “A Lifetime Of Loving You”, popular sounds like “I Was Born For You” and “ Craazy Laazy”.

Recently, I decided to do something I have not done before - open up my compendium of songs and begin recording. My songs are being made available to other artists interested in recording and performing new songs that will be received well by a wide variety of audiences and a few niches. Some of my songs have been audience tested while others await discovery. I hope you like them.

Lyrics

I'll Still B W/U

Written By: Drew Gorman

With the wind in your hair
Across the ocean you stare and
The sky is the color of the sea

The seagulls laugh loudly
You feel your heart pounding
Your spirit is visiting me

Let there be no mistake
I can feel your heart beat
I can taste the salt air upon your skin

Can you surrender
Will you hear my voice
I am calling your name from within

Will you give in to your soul and let my love
heal the pain that you’ve had for so long
We’ll be together whenever you smile
and remember the words to this song

I’ll still be with you when I’m gone

As you are driving
And climbing your mountains
the radio’s fading away

Looking ahead
you see nothing at all
while the night time is turning to day

Will you listen to my voice and accept
that for now I am where I belong
We’ll be together again as you smile
and remember the words to this song

I’ll still be with you when I’m gone

You’re moving forward
but time seems to stand still
can you hear me whisper your name?

I am within you
Whenever you want me
Within you I’ll always remain

Will you give in to your soul and let my love
heal the pain that you’ve had for so long
We’ll be together again but till then
will you cherish the words to this song

I’ll still be with you when I’m gone

Still The Waters

Written By: Drew Gorman

I turned left - when I should have turned right
I rolled over - should have put up a fight
I laid down when I should have been standing
I should have known wrong from right
But I was proud and I was angry
I was stubborn - I knew I was right
And so it goes, I chose the darkness
When I should have turned to the light

So take my hand and Still The Waters
you can calm the raging sea
Without your love my world is empty
Without your love I cannot be

I closed my eyes - when they should have been open
I drank my fill - threw out the rest
I turned my back on your true devotion
I think I failed about every test
But I wanted more - more than I wanted
you to love me forever more
And now I drown in tears of sadness
and I can hear the ocean roar

I was blind, but I was not looking
For the kind and loving Spirit that is you
And now the ocean of despair is wildly raging
I cant help but think there’s nothing I can do
But I know your love can surely save me
And bring me peace that will forever last
For every sinner has a future
and every saint has had a past

So take my hand and Still The Waters
you can calm the raging sea
Without your love my world is empty
Without your love I cannot be

CocoRat

My brother he’s half crazy - shows up at the door
Never has much for his wife & kids but he takes more and more
His wife she has the children - they have no shoes on their feet
They have a tin roof over their head - nothing much to eat
My brother drinks his cares away - beats his woman too
He says “you better bring out my dinner now or I’ll show you what I’ll do”

He’s a CocaRat

My other brother from another mother rides in the back of a long black car
I think it’s a Mercedes Benz – acts like a movie star
He lives off the white powder - sell a little reefer too
Gives away the needles – to the children in his zoo
Who live under the tin roofs - with no shoes on their feet
Their mama’s love them their daddies don’t care - they don’t have much to eat
When my brother leaves his big black car – with his bodyguards by his side
He’s not thinking about the kids he’s killing - or the ones who have already died

He’s a CocaRat

Now Mr. Governor he was elected - he do what politicians do
They make promises in the back room - they make some to me and you
He’s gonna replace the tin roofs - gonna give us all some shoes
But when he gets control of things - we all be singin the blues
While he be ridin in the back --- of his long black car
he be laughin and telling jokes about - what kind of fools we are…

He’s a CocaRat

I don’t know what you’re looking for or where you may want to be
The sunshine of my love is in your eyes maybe your blind and you just can’t see

But you’re the one
You’re the one
You’re the one for me

Whenever I am looking at you and you’re looking strait at me
I see that look deep in your eyes I can see it definitely

You’re the one
You’re the one
You’re the one for me

Maybe I’m just dreaming and there’s no one there at all
Maybe you’re a figment of my mind
If my imaginations got the best of me this time then its OK
Don’t go away

I don’t know what you’re looking for or where you may want to be
Maybe there’s stardust in your eyes and you’re blind and you just can’t see

You’re the one
You’re the one
You’re the one for me

You don’t know what you’re looking at but for me it’s plain to see

You’re the one
You’re the one
You’re the one for me

Mercury In Retrograde

Written By: Drew Gorman & Margaret Gorman

Murder comes in many faces killing fields and tiny places
Fill your head with poison metal give it time and as it settles
Leaching through your blood and veins destroys your heart attacks your brain
And as you shake and feel the tremors feel the pain like burning embers
Silent death sold in the markets fills the banks and lines their pockets
Men with licenses to kill there’s mercury and holes to fill
So just lay back enjoy the ride, who cares what they may put inside you
Leave the killing fields behind while poison travels to your mind

It fills your world with pain and death and never stops till your last breath
While doctors and the laws applaud it vaccines are a killing fraud that
Mothers have to give their children watch as doctors shoot and kill them
Think they have prevented sickness they’ve been taken by the wicked
Know the truth but they ignore it give the drug your body stores it
Sends it through your blood and veins until you cannot take the pain
And as you try to catch a breath you pray to God for precious death
And those who killed you raise their eyes and pray you never realize

Yes you were led by governments that learn to grow and pay the rent
With money made from tortured souls whose stories will remain untold
When will you stop the killing fields in dentists chairs and chairs with wheels
In hospitals, out-patient rooms graveyards of this poison doom
That hides inside us face unseen but now we hear their silent screams
This mercury in Retrograde has poisoned us like lemonade served by
Jim Jones to all the faithful willing souls don’t know their fait till
They get sick and start to die they lift their eyes up to the sky

They ask their Maker who would do this who could be so cruel and clueless
Doctors and the dentist orgs surround them like a choking cord
Like snakes about to strike their victims - do not dare to contradict them
TAKE YOUR MERCURY AND DIE they flash their message in the sky
And drive their victims through the sod while they pretend to be their god
But woe to you who pray to them for suffering will be your end
The little children led to slaughter will include your sons and daughters
Mercury in retrograde is sickness worship to the grave

So let us end this misery the deaf shall hear the blind shall see
We are the cause and the solution lets begin the revolution
Take this mercury away and close the doors this very day
To the killing fields and tiny places killers and their many faces
Mercury in Retrograde is sickness worship to the grave
So let us end this misery The Deaf Shall Hear The Blind Shall See
Let us end this misery The Deaf Shall Hear The Blind Shall See
Take this Mercury Away and close the doors this very day

Mercury in Retrograde is sickness worship to the grave
So let us end this misery The Deaf Shall Hear The Blind Shall See
We are the cause and the solution lets begin the revolution
Take this mercury away and close the doors this very day
To the killing fields and tiny places killers and their many faces
Mercury in Retrograde is sickness worship to the grave
So let us end this misery The Deaf Shall Hear The Blind Shall See
Take this mercury away and close the doors this very day
Take this mercury away and close the doors this very day
To the killing fields and tiny places killers and their many faces
Mercury in Retrograde is sickness worship to the grave
So let us end this misery The Deaf Shall Hear The Blind Shall See

Great Love (Gr8 Luv)
Words & Music by Drew Gorman ©2010

I called my doctor just the other day
I said Doc you gotta listen to what I gotta say
I’m so dizzy and I can’t think at all
I’ll tell you my story and you make the call
I got a long tall Sally and it's breakin my heart
She's havin hot and cold flashes and that’s just the start
She’s on the left coast and I’m on the right
When I head for my bed she’s goin out on the night
She writes me love letters sends me kisses too
I’m at the end of my rope I don’t know what to do
Doc said listen here son and look in my eyes
I know exactly what you got and to my surprise he said…

You got a Great Love
Its something called a Great Love
Aint no ordinary date love
You suffrin from a Great Love
It can even make you hate Love
You got a Great Love

You got no power you ain’t got no rights
Got lots a worries lots of sleepless nights
One thing I can tell you I can tell you for sure
Aint got no treatment I ain’t got no cure
You got the package you got it all
But the higher you fly (climb) you know the further you fall
When…

You got a Great Love…

He said: some people come here feelin so down low
They get all dressed but they got nowhere to go
Some got lots of money some got planes and cars
Some even go out with those movie stars
But they say doctor doctor can you cure this pain
Got a whole in my heart and its driving me insane
Got noone to love me, need to love someone a lot
and each one is looking for what you already got

You got a Great Love…

You got a pretty woman in high heal shoes
And one day she might make you wanta sing the blues
But for now you got your cake and you can eat it too
You got that Great Love syndrome there ain’t nothing you can do
You should hop a plane and get your ass in the air
Cause you wont be feeling better till you get over there
Where you can hug her and squeeze her and tell her what I said
Your doctor says she got to get it through her head…

You got a Great Love…

Old Glory

Old Glory
Words & Music by Drew Gorman

As you cross the great Atlantic and Pacific oceans wide
You protect the name of freedom where her flames have all but died
Though you cannot touch each lost soul who reaches out their hand
Your truth is such a mighty force they die to reach your land

And your sons and daughters hear your voice
Whenever you call their names
They fight for you and shed their blood
Sans fortune or fame
Your only quest is liberty, freedoms marching flame
Freedom is your story and Old Glory is your name

When I see you burned and spat upon, dear Lord it breaks my heart
As the flames engulf your stars and stripes it tears my soul apart
So mighty are your colors - the blue, the white, the red
But the only foreign land you keep is used to rest your dead

Yes, your sons and daughters hear your voice
Whenever you call their names
They fight for you and shed their blood
Sans fortune and fame
Your only quest is liberty, freedom’s marching flame
Freedom is your story and Old Glory is your name

When I see you waving silently across the azure sky
I hear you speak to all of us in words we can’t deny
Many have died to give you freedom and the liberty you’ve found
So remember that the land o’er which I wave is hallowed ground

Because my sons and daughters hear my voice
Whenever I call their names
They fight for you and shed their blood
Sans fortune and fame
My only quest is liberty, freedoms marching flame
Freedom is my story and Old Glory is my name

Soft As A Kiss

Written By: Drew Gorman

Soft as a Kiss
Words & Music by Drew Gorman ?2008

Soft as a Kiss
hard as a stone
sometimes the truth is better left alone
like taking a one way trip to the great unknown
yes there’s a resurrection - but through the dying zone
Soft as a Kiss
Hard as a stone

What is a man – Where is he bound?
His shadow walks beside him till the sun goes down
His love lights up the highway as he’s leaving town
But when he comes to the great intersection - he crosses it alone
Soft as a kiss
Hard as a stone

Old too fast - wise too old
The future, the present, the past - bought and sold
when the story’s over and its getting cold
There’s nothing left to discretion – and the ending is well known
Soft as a Kiss
Hard as a stone

What is love - What does it mean?
It’s the alpha and the omega and everything in between
It’s believing in something that you’ve never seen
It doesn’t come with directions but you can’t find it on your own
Soft as a kiss
Hard as a stone

West of the Pathos-Bleeding Hearts-EPIC

West Of The Pathos/
Bleeding Hearts-EPIC
Words & Music by Drew Gorman ©2009

Verse 1
Everybody has pain they’re hiding
Everybody has a place they remember
where they don’t want to go
And the eraser of time is useless
How the image that remains gets stronger
I don’t know

You can fight it and the pain that lingers
But like an oncoming train that screeches
as it’s coming down the track
It’s just a matter of time before it’s
gonna come back the other way

Chorus 1
I look around and see people crying
I feel the pain but there’s nothing
that I can say
Got a daughter on an 02 line
She may be dying but she’s feeling fine today
But now I’m
West of the Pathos And I
don’t think I can face those blues again

Verse 2
Everybody’s got something inside
that eats away at their soul and keeps them
fighting for their life
Some battle with outside forces
some battle themselves using their own knife

Some don’t even know they’re fighting
They battle on into the night and
cause each other pain
And when the bodies are revealed in the morning light they look for someone else to blame

Chorus 2
Me I’m trying to heal my wounds
I’m trying to rest my tortured veins
Blinded by the light of the Truth
I’m using brail to learn about chest pain

Take a handful of pills when I wake up
Take a bottle of wine to bed like Novocain
Will someone tell me when the race is done -
when the game is over –
when we’re having fun OK? Hey…

Until then I’m
West of the Pathos and
I don’t think I can face those blues again

Chorus 3
Got a call on the cel one morning
Turn on the tube there’s something
you just gotta see
People screaming and people crying
buildings falling and people flying
right through the air

I had 19 dollars in my pocket
3 kids and an empty wallet
Nowhere to run
Made a call to my peaceful brother
He said I can’t talk now
I gotta get me a gun

The face of evil in the smoke was grinning
This ain’t the end it’s just the beginning
Do you understand?

And now I’m resting in a quiet station
A blank ticket for my destination and there’s
someone yelling that the train is on it’s way

Hey, hey, but I’m West of the Pathos
And I don’t want to face those blues today

Until then I’m…

West of the Pathos and
I don’t think I can chase those blues away
I don’t think I can face those blues again
I don’t want to face those blues again

The Girl Likes To Sing
Words and Music by Drew Gorman ?2010

The Girl Don’t Like It when the rain come down
She don’t like cryin’ after she fall down
She don’t like learnin’ she don’t care what it bring

And she don’t like bein’ alone
She don’t like losin’ a friend
But she like to sing

La la la la la la
Well the girl likes to sing

Well the girl don’t like it when the sun go down
She don’t like to get up in the morn
She don’t like it when she skins her knee
She just wanta be free
And that’s how it’s meant to be
And she likes to sing

La la la la la la
Well the girl likes to sing

And there’s nothing she has to say
there’s nothing she has to do
There’s nothing she has to say or do
To say I love you

Well the girl don’t like it if you turn your head
And she don’t like it when she goes to bed
She wants to stay up and watch TV
And sit upon my knee and laugh just her and me
And she likes to sing

La la la la la la
Well the girl likes to sing
