From signature guitar riffs to surprising lyrical depth, 15-year-old Drew Miller is musically wise beyond his years. With a debut EP produced by Sean Kelly, formerly of Sixpence None the Richer, Drew amazes industry professionals and fans alike with his musical maturity.

Biography

Drew Miller celebrated the eve of his 15th birthday on a stage in front of 600 screaming fans. He was energized by the huge sound system, but he was more concerned that his vocals could be heard. It wasn’t the vanity of a singer, but the concern of a songwriter that his message would be received and hopefully taken to heart.

“I wrote my first song after reading Fahrenheit 451,” he explains. “The song was mainly about the loss of thinking in our culture and its replacement with stimulating pleasure. “ Since then, Drew has continued to explore the shallowness of modern culture and the depths of spirituality with lyrics like these:

This pleasant life I live is
Filled with senses, satisfying suspenses
That leave me hanging on a thread
All that bloodshed’s just life in some places

It’s quickly apparent that Drew views the world differently than most teens. When discussion reaches topics related to pop culture, he becomes more animated as he calls out marketers and the media:

"We are being force fed our own 'personality,' and with this comes a simply misguided approach to life. Take major clothing chains for a simple example: the whole strategy for Abercrombie and Fitch is to portray different attractive couples making out on a beach. They see what matters to us and market it, and it’s not even clothes anymore. We consume without a thought, simply because it purposefully stimulates this natural impulse, this thing we naturally react to."

Drew began writing songs at age 13, and barely a year later recorded his debut EP with former Sixpence None the Richer guitarist Sean Kelly who commented, "Drew is a talented and unique songwriter whose skills go way beyond his years. He has an amazing way of taking a melody to an unexpected place yet at the same time his songs sound catchy and timeless."

The maturity of his music and its growing popularity are also his statement to the entertainment industry that teens can and want to think for themselves. He draws from influences as diverse as Jon Foreman, Nickel Creek, The Killers and Dave Matthews Band to forge a sound that is as distinctive as his lyrics.

Drew is excited to bring his music to a new band with a unique lineup to match his unique sound. He is joined by classmates Payton Thomas (14) on acoustic bass, Mary Grace Johnson (14) on violin, Isaac Johnson (16) on cello and his father, Dan Miller, on drums.

These Walls

Written By: Drew Miller

You see these walls around me
The earth surrounds me with limitations
I make the best of the east and the west
And all of the rest of this man-made mess

This pleasant life I live is
Filled with senses, satisfying suspenses
That leave me hanging on a thread
All that bloodshed's just life in some places

What will be left, if these walls fall down on me?
If this so-called protection is gone, will I like what I see?
If these walls fall down, what will fall closest to me?

You see these walls around me
This church surrounds me with insulation
But just outside the window
It's only so far away

I pray for sweet forgiveness
Saying the new me is here to stay
But just outside the window
It's only so far away

What left will I be, when these walls aren't here for me?
When this insulation is gone, will He like what He sees?

What will I truly be when it's only me?

Green Paper

Written By: Drew Miller

Run away from me, run away
And tell me if you're free
And tell me how to get there
Oh where will my burdens run away from me?

'Cause we've been searching
And we've been fighting
And we've been shopping, for freedom
Let's buy, let's sell, let's buy, and what else?
What else?

Freedom isn't in my pocket
Freedom isn't in my wallet
All I got in there is some green paper
With a dead man's face on it

People get dirty and filthy
When people get green
Take out your wallet
And justice is a whole different thing

'Cause we've been cursing
And we've been fighting
And we've been bribing, for justice
So Lord, come and cleanse me
Wash me whiter than the blood red cash in my hand

Justice isn't in my pocket
Justice isn't in my wallet
All I got in there is some green paper
With a dead man's face on it

I've got a debt that's bigger than America's
It's bigger than all the money in the world
I've got a debt that's impossible to pay
And you've got it too, but we're okay

We're okay because our debt
Is in the economy of grace

And grace is always bigger than justice
Redemption is the only way to freedom
Freedom from that stuff we did with green paper
With a dead man's face on it

And Jesus isn't in my pocket
Jesus isn't in my wallet
But Jesus is in my soul, so I'm okay!
Yeah, I'm okay!

Wake Me Up

Written By: Drew Miller

Look down on your generations
Surely we are second to heaven
This thing that you made, it descends from the grave
We descend from our brother's rage

Look into our hearts and souls
This story you lived and you told
You knew where you were and we know who we are
So help me God, when in Rome
So help me God, if I call this home

And wake me up, wake me up
From this dream I am living in
Wake me up, wake me up
Wash this blood off of my hands

We cannot endure our vices
And we cannot endure their cures
So if greed is the vice and money is the cure
Then i have to say I'm not so sure

And I saw your face on my money
Yeah, I saw your face on my money
And I saw God's grace in the fish in the sea
When they spat your face out onto the beach
Yes, they spat your face out onto the beach
Saying...

Wake me up, wake me up
From this dream I am living in
Wake me up, wake me up
Wash this blood off of my hands

I wanna have a dream
That doesn't have to do with my country
That doesn't have to do with money
That doesn't have to do with me
So wake me up, wake me up, wake me up!

Wake me up, wake me up
Take my head out of the sand
Wake me up, wake me up
From this dream I am living in

Walked Away

Written By: Drew Miller

Walking down the street, staring at my feet
On the ground
So many people have walked this same street
In this same town

And You were one of us, walking in Your world
Down Your street
You taught us how to live
But we were not willing to see

We walked away, walked away
From Your truth
We walked away, walked away
From You

Have we lost our way?
Led ourselves astray from Your name?
We believe in You
But to believe and to follow aren't the same

We've walked away, walked away
From Your truth
We've walked away, walked away
From You

So come and change us today
Lord, have mercy and grace
Come and change us today
Give us a new kind of faith
We want to change

We've walked away, walked away
From Your truth
Oh, but we're running back, running back
To You

The Lack

Written By: Drew Miller

It’s a big world when it’s not yours
A land of milk and honey
Or a place to build a tower up to heaven

It’s a big world when it’s not yours
The lack that came from one lie
That the fruit from a tree would allow me to see from my God’s eyes

But it’s a small world after all when you know it all
It’s a small world after all when you know it all

CHORUS:
Oh, how I want the things I lack

It’s a big world when it’s not yours
Oh Alexander
You slept with a knife under your pillow every night until you died

It’s a big world when it’s not yours
Parking lots for department stores
Paving it’s way through the trail of tears, here comes the land of the free

But it’s a small world after all when you rule it all
It’s a small world after all when you rule it all

CHORUS:
Oh, how I want the things I lack
Oh, how I want the things I lack

It’s a big world when it’s not yours
So many beautiful girls
Supposed to look the same, act the same, dress the same and like the same things
All because of you

And I know you know it’s a shame
When you watch them walking through the mall
It’s a small world after all when you own them all
It’s a small world after all when you own them all

CHORUS:
Oh, how I want the things I lack
Oh, how I want the things I lack

It’s a small world after all when you own it all
It’s a small world after all when you own it all

Oh, how I want the things I lack
Oh, how I want the things I lack

Love

Written By: Drew Miller

The truth doesn’t sell
The truth doesn’t sell

She convinced herself she was lonely
She convinced herself she was the only
Girl in the world who was looking for more
Than what the boys were begging for

She figured the ends would justify the means
So she took part in this love and war
He didn’t have the heart to back up his lips
But hey, she’s not alone anymore
Though she’s lonelier than ever before

Now she‘s saying…
I want to have
Love in my life
Worth so much more
Than what it’s sold for

Cause the truth doesn’t sell
The truth doesn’t sell

The story of a politician
A politician with good intensions
He knew in his heart he wasn’t like the rest
So he put down all his ammunition
He figured the ends would justify the means
So he picked it back up again
He thought he had the heart to back up his lips
But now he’s walking a line all too thin
Still he wants to stand for something bigger than a loss or a win

Now he’s saying…
I want to be
Love in their lives
Worth so much more
Than what I’m sellin’ it for

Is the truth still the truth if it’s mass produced?
Has it always been this easy to swallow?
And I know nowadays it’s hard to tell
But I guarantee the truth doesn’t sell

The truth doesn’t sell
The truth doesn’t sell

And I can’t afford to buy eternal life
When it’s more than you can see on the outside
I can’t pay my way to an all-loving God
Who’s worth so much more than what He’s sold for

Cause the truth doesn’t sell
The truth doesn’t sell
