Bio

Drew Miller celebrated the eve of his 15th birthday on a stage in front of 600 screaming fans. He was energized by the huge sound system, but he was more concerned that his vocals could be heard. It wasn’t the vanity of a singer, but the concern of a songwriter that his message would be received and hopefully taken to heart.

“I wrote my first song after reading Fahrenheit 451,” he explains. “The song was mainly about the loss of thinking in our culture and its replacement with stimulating pleasure. “ Since then, Drew has continued to explore the shallowness of modern culture and the depths of spirituality with lyrics like these:

This pleasant life I live is
Filled with senses, satisfying suspenses
That leave me hanging on a thread
All that bloodshed’s just life in some places

It’s quickly apparent that Drew views the world differently than most teens. When discussion reaches topics related to pop culture, he becomes more animated as he calls out marketers and the media:

"We are being force fed our own 'personality,' and with this comes a simply misguided approach to life. Take major clothing chains for a simple example: the whole strategy for Abercrombie and Fitch is to portray different attractive couples making out on a beach. They see what matters to us and market it, and it’s not even clothes anymore. We consume without a thought, simply because it purposefully stimulates this natural impulse, this thing we naturally react to."

Drew began writing songs at age 13, and barely a year later recorded his debut EP with former Sixpence None the Richer guitarist Sean Kelly who commented, "Drew is a talented and unique songwriter whose skills go way beyond his years. He has an amazing way of taking a melody to an unexpected place yet at the same time his songs sound catchy and timeless."

The maturity of his music and its growing popularity are also his statement to the entertainment industry that teens can and want to think for themselves. He draws from influences as diverse as Jon Foreman, Nickel Creek, The Killers and Dave Matthews Band to forge a sound that is as distinctive as his lyrics.

Drew is excited to bring his music to a new band with a unique lineup to match his unique sound. He is joined by classmates Payton Thomas (14) on acoustic bass, Mary Grace Johnson (14) on violin, Isaac Johnson (16) on cello and his father, Dan Miller, on drums.
