Bio

Although Drew Stevens has been singing all his life, he was never supposed to be performing alone. It was all a mistake.

After Stevyns’ band of two years, Another Time, lost its guitar player, the group decided to take a break and Stevyns, at 26 years old, found himself without music for the first time in his life.

Without an outlet for his voice, the singer picked up a guitar and taught himself to play, eventually crafting his own songs. He started performing his material live while he waited for his band to get back on track, but the music began to take on a life of its own, and Stevyns hasn’t looked back since.

Evoking a wide range of styles and influences, Stevyns’ music has firmly placed him in a tradition of modern-rock troubadours along with Jeff Buckley, Pete Yorn, Chris Cornell and Jim Morrison. His voice calls to mind what Alice in Chains’ Layne Staley might’ve sounded like if he had listened to a few Fiona Apple albums- passionate, resonant and sharp. There is a palpable sadness to Stevyns’ voice that makes his songs impossible to shake, and the music surges, hard-edged yet beautiful and melodic. With only his voice and a guitar he creates an atmosphere that many full bands might envy.

It’s a craft that Stevyns has spent years honing. The Sykesville, Maryland native spent his childhood singing in his church and high school choirs, and after a year in college at the University of Maryland (Baltimore), he devoted himself to music. It was a dream he supported with any job he could get, including working in a factory, McDonalds and doing landscaping. Though the easy-going Stevyns is finally living his dream, performing for fans all around the area and going into the recording studio, he remains down to earth on the possibility of success. After all, he’s already achieved what he really wanted. He was finally able to quit his day job and give himself entirely to what he loves: music.
