Bio

Andre Bailey aka Drezion hails from Kingston, Jamaica. As a youth he was introduced into the world of music by being exposed to a variety of instruments in church. It was evident that music came naturally to Drezion, as he could instantly learn and repeat any piece of music presented to him. Learning by ear enabled him to be proficient on a variety instruments beginning with drums, guitar, bass and finally finding his true calling on keyboards. Throughout his academic career he won trophies at JCDC and was a top student at Edna Manley College, which he attended until 2007.

During college, Drezion was introduced to Anchor Records and began working closely with Gussie Clarke in a studio setting. This was a turning point in Drezion’s budding career as a professional musician, as he also found a passion for making beats. This natural talent grew and therefore drew attention from Father Romie of Exodus Studio/Soundsystem and Vybz Kartel, making him the first producer for Portmore Empire. The collaboration produced beats like “Skin Will Burn”, “First Chapter” and “Evil Deeds”. Before he even finished college, he was pursued by Morgan Heritage to play keyboards with them. For five years, Drezion toured and recorded with Morgan Heritage and is now the Musical Director for their solo projects.

All the while, Drezion was working on making beats and perfecting his skills as both a musician and producer. While voicing demos on his beats, Daddy Champagne (owner of Champagne Intl Records) heard him and urged him to become a vocalist. Champagne Records fused with Drezion’s own record label, Tenament Yard Records, and began releasing tracks and riddims such as the “Swag Riddim” and with a diverse portfolio of artist including; Lee “Scratch” Perry, Rum Roy, D’Angel, Bob Andy, Tinda Stewart, Ken Boothe, Tenuke, and many more. Tenament Yard Records was founded in 2009 and to date has five artists on its growing roster; Ice Cap, Unknown, Shania, Crime X, Bolan. As Tenament Yard Records grows, Drezion will be grooming his career as a solo artist as well as continuing to produce notable tracks for internationally renowned artists.

Drezion’s unique sound is a fusion of dancehall, laced with conscious reggae and lover’s rock. As an artist, he stands firm in staying true to his roots in musical diversity and mastering each instrument for a professional sound. He believes that reggae music needs to be brought back to the days where musicians crafted their sounds organically, by truly mastering their instruments and understanding keys, timing and rhythm for a sound that cannot be recreated digitally, though often attempted. Drezion brings a powerful old school idealology infused with a modern sound. He draws inspiration from Sizzla, Capleton, I-Wayne, Morgan Heritage, Dennis Brown and Bob Marley. His message spreads tranquility, love, relaxation and a desire for a peaceful world – sometimes bringing it hard in a dancehall style and other times smooth and mellow.

2011 was another busy year for Drezion, just coming off a American and European tour as the musical director and lead keyboard for Gramps & Peetah Morgan tour, Drezion is hard at work in the studio finishing his first solo album produced by his own label Tenament Yard. Enlisting some of the biggest name in Reggae the “Stampeed Riddim” is the next big project before Drezion embarks on an International promotion tour in 2012.
