Some artists play for the money. Some play for the fame and attention. Some play for the girls. Some play for the free liquor. Some play because they simply are not good at anything else. Drinkwater plays for all of those reasons AND because he loves music and enjoys playing music for people.

Biography

Ralph Drinkwater Floyd (1973-Present), or RD as he is known to those close to him, is an American Entertainer, Recording Artist, and Singer / Songwriter from Cut & Shoot, Texas. He was born in Fort Oglethorpe, GA, a small rural mountain community that borders Chattanooga, TN to a Welsh-Irish carpenter "Jack of all trades" and a French-Canadian / Iroquois nurse and school teacher. He grew up in Shepherd, Texas where he graduated Shepherd High School in 1991. He joined the military in 1992. From 1992 to 2003 he lived in Illinois, California, Texas, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana and before finally returning home to Shepherd, TX.

Drinkwater began playing guitar at the age of seven and began writing songs as a teenager. From the beginning Drinkwater knew he had a talent for story telling and poetry, adding music to the fray came naturally. His songs are a refreshing alternative to today's "cookie cutter" songs that are coming out of the Nashville Song Machine. His music is comprised of a little bit country, a little bit folk-rock, a whole lotta Texas and other fine Southern music. Though you will hear some tunes that highlight his travels to California, Chicago, New York and other places.

Drinkwater's voice is reminiscent of an earlier era, it is big and bold and sweet and rough. There is an honesty to his music that comes across just as clearly as his big Texas smile and modest disposition. A big fan of Texas Country and Southern Rock, Drinkwater draws on many of his influences and combines bits and pieces of each in his performance and songwriting.

Drinkwater's debut album will be finished in Fall of 2007. It is aptly titled "Drinkwater Floyd ~ Half Lies & Partial Truths". You can catch Drinkwater performing at Premiere Texas Music Venues and Listening Rooms such as:
