Feeling a bit camera shy

Born and raised in Jamaica, Queens but residing in Atlanta, Ga, he has an appreciation for all styles of hip hop. His style is conscious and lyrical, but still care free and fun at times with songs for the ladies. He can turn up with you, or slow it down and smooth it out.
Growing up in New York City in the 90's and early 2000's, musical influences are mainly but not limited to rappers of the era and location  such as Nas, Jay-Z, Biggie, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, and 50 Cent. Other influences not from the region are Lupe Fiasco, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Lauryn Hill, and Bob Marley. This wide array of influences helps shape the sound, content, and overall feel for his music.
Idris has been in love with hip hop since a very young age.The first rap song he ever memorized was "One More Chance" by The Notorious B.IG at the tender age of 8 and didn't understand what the lyrics meant until he was a young man . The first time he did a talent show was at the age of 10, where his older sister wrote the rap for him. Hip hop has been an intricate part in his life ever since he could remember.
Growing up with no dad in the house, hip hop was like a father to him by teaching him things his dad never did. So it was only natural to be immersed in the culture and want to be like some of the guys he idolized as a youth. While in High School, !dris took to the art form by free styling with his friends in his basement and soon realized that none of his buddies could freestyle as good as he could. But he never took it too seriously and it remained a hobby for years.
!dris moved to Atlanta and would eventually move in with his cousin to rekindle that flame. His cousin rapped but had given up on his dream until !dris sparked that fire again in him. Encouraging him to freestyle at night, listen to beats, and do shows. Within a month, he had a studio in his house and began recording and performing. During this time, !dris rekindled the flame and took the craft seriously.
!dris initially thought it would be easy and soon realized this was not the case, although it was fun, it would take serious work to improve upon the many skills that makes the total package of a rapper. Investing time, money, blood, sweat, and tears into his craft, he would write his 1st album called "Freedom Papers Volume1" in 2013. But he did not release it until 2015.
With the release of this project,  marked the point of no return for !dris. He released the project on iTunes, google play, spotify, youtube, and all other major online retailers. He also tied in the release of his project with the release of his website www.iamdris.com while attending the Million Man March all on the same day 10/10/16.
Since the release of his 1st project, he's done showcases, open mics, and even created his own showcase where he released his latest song "Stamp Passports". Look for more music, videos, and self made showcases from this Jamaica , Queens MC!
