Bio

Bassist and founder Ben Fisher has been playing bass for almost 8 years now, spending that time becoming fluent in a plethora of different genres and styles of music, from jazz, to punk, to metal, to bluegrass, to progressive rock and so on. Although having no real background in music theory, Fisher learned how to speak through his music the same way he does with his actions -- throwing away the book, doing what he loves for the love of it and gaining respect from his community in the process. Having have seen a thing or two at the age of 19, he has managed to vocalize his life experiences through his musicianship, successfully bringing out a sort of structured chaos through the compositions he has written on bass. And given that he cannot sing to save his life, he has successfully utilized his grungy, funky playing style as his own voice; whether people would take it or leave it was always irrelevant. It is simply an extension of his entity. When the time was right to pull together a band based on the idea that there's no monopoly on creativity and originality, Fisher immediately began seeking out fellow talented musicians that could embrace doing something different with their craft.

Guitarist Keith Meenan brings an irreplaceable asset of both wisdom and goofiness to the table that is Dr. Meatpie. Having have been around the block with the music scene in many places, he moved to Tucson from Rexburg, Idaho to meet new people and expand his experience, and that he did. By the time Keith and Ben crossed paths, Meenan had hardly lived in Tucson for a year and had already built a solid reputation around town as a reliable, professional musician, who knows how to have a good time and raise the roof with his awe-striking guitar playing no matter what crowd he was playing for. When he and Fisher first began playing together, they knew they were the perfect match for each other to make this group a reality, although constructing lead guitar riffs over Ben's zany bass lines was not easy. However, the challenge was met dutifully and the end result made for a very promising chemistry, making a funky brainchild that combined the not-so-conventional song structures of progressive rock and fusion jazz, the irresistable grooves of funk, the bark of old-school thrash metal and a seriously in-your-face punk rock attitude. And that was when the duo decided to commit to being partners in crime and turn Tucson upside down with a new-age music scene revolution.

And that was where Skyler Freeman came into the picture. A multi-talented drummer coming from a family of gifted musicians, Skyler and Keith were already associated as fellow guitar players in the Benjamin Hyatt Band, so he came to mind as an immediate no-brainer to bring the Meatpie sound together with his extensive skill behind the drums. Providing a seemingly infinite amount of resources and opening doors left and right into the local music scene, the trio immediately began spreading the word of the up-and-coming phenomenon led by Dr. Meatpie's attractive sound. Within a matter of months, they have established a stable reputation in the local Tucson music scene as professional, psychopathic musicians that have facilitated a movement restoring faith in the integrity of music as a statement and an art form. Their debut self-titled EP, released independently on November 14th, 2011, is a testament to the passion that drove the band to recognition with rapid velocity since their formation in late August.
