"MUSIC: Drop Dead Sixty"

Drop Dead Sixty is comprised of guitarist/keyboardist Gavin Billy Cougar, vocalist Michael Kerosene, bassist/backup vocalist Joe Dalva, and percussionist Matt Young. After a four-year-long stint in high school with a band called Calibur, life-long friends Mike and Gavin decided to reunite musically and start something new, which was the beginning of Drop Dead Sixty in January of 2009. Having played a couple of shows (in separate bands), and keeping in touch with Matt Young, he was the first choice and immediately recruited as the drummer for the new project, along with Mike's brother, Matt, who would fulfill the role of bass guitarist. By the end of 2009, Mike's brother parted ways with the project and soon Joe Dalva answered an ad to try out for the band. With the newly recruited Joe Dalva, Drop Dead Sixty was again ready to move forward, first by re-emerging as a live act in April 2010, then announcing a new full-length album, due out by Winter 2010. Drop Dead Sixty is managed by Barb Wahli. Visit her at Barbrocks.com. - rawartists.org

"Drop Dead Sixty"

Description

Hayward alt-rockers Drop Dead Sixty sound too modern to be called "glam," although lead singer Michael Kerosene's remarkable vocals can be quite reminiscent of Bowie at times. In any case, the band is having a bit of fun with the idea at their show Friday, encouraging fans to dress up for a "Glam Party." That is, as Daniel Tosh would say, "high fashion," or just your best all-out rawk look. DD60 is taking an interesting approach to their next releases, debuting a song or two every month for purchase, which will eventually be compiled into an EP. Also on the bill are David Brookings, Solwave and Cosmic Machine. - Steve Palopoli, sanjose.com - SanJose.com

Bio

DROP DEAD SIXTY is comprised of long time childhood friends Michael Kerosene (vocals) and Gavin Billy Cougar (guitar/piano), along with their friend Jennie Mermod (bass guitar) and her long time friend Mike “Mayhem” Henning (drums). Gavin and Mike have played music together for over 7 years, including their time in East Bay band Calibur. Both members have an interesting past which includes Michael opening for William Duvall (Alice in Chains lead singer 2007-Present) at Blake's in Berkeley a couple of years ago. Michael was also featured on 107.7 FM The Bone's Local Licks multiple times and was picked as one of radio DJ Joe Rock's top picks in 2007. Gavin has been writing music since age 13 and was formally trained by Kyle Bates, a 20 year pro-guitarist known for his time in The Bridesmaids). Gavin’s songs have even been heard and appreciated by acclaimed guitarist Steve Vai!

Since their creation in early 2009, DROP DEAD SIXTY has been featured four times in the Silicon Valley Metro, being revered as energetic live and comparable to Stone Temple Pilots and Muse, as well as their songs featured on Live105, KSJS 90.5 FM, and The Unbound Sound with Phil Toole on FCC Free Radio. They’ve also released "Exist" EP in Fall 2009, followed by their highly anticipated debut album "Anarchy of the Wicked Penguin" in Spring 2011, which was well-received by their strong San Jose fan-base.

Known for their strong hooks, deep themes, and unique theatricality, DROP DEAD SIXTY released their newest EP "Until The End" in Summer 2012, produced by Steven Murr (Murrman Productions). They also debuted their first music video "Lonely Streets" filmed by Element 151, as well as an animated music video for "Mediatic" that is currently being submitted to various film festivals, including ASIFA-SF, ADAA, and Kahbang. The band also won "Best New Band" in the inaugural Silicon Valley Sound eXperience awards, presented by Metro Newspapers.

With such intricate talent and a hunger to create something new and exciting, DROP DEAD SIXTY will continue to infiltrate the local music scene with unforgettable live performances that will keep their fans guessing and desiring what’s to come.
