Biography

The release of Dropmore Scarlet’s self-titled debut CD in 2005 was well received by the Milwaukee and Chicago music communities. Performing together since 2001, Dropmore Scarlet has played at various venues such as Summerfest, Chicago AIDS Run/Walk, International Pop Overthrow, Pridefest, Northalstead Market Days, and The Milwaukee Ale House.

Dropmore Scarlet gained national exposure when they were featured in Curve magazine’s music issue in August of 2005, which generated multiple inquires for interviews and nation-wide distribution of their CD.

Dropmore Scarlet’s distinct style spans multiple genres and is not easily classified. “It's not an easy feat for a band to make a record packed with diversity and all the while maintain a distinctive personality. Props, then, to Milwaukee quartet Dropmore Scarlet, which bridges that difficulty with its eponymous debut disc. They have the ability to rock out like Blondie or Echobelly (‘Pretty Lip’), pull a jazzy Brazilian twist, a la Basia (‘Lately’), head into Afropop (‘Love and Light’) or '80s Britpop (‘Jake’ will grab Housemartins fans by the neck!) and leap head-first into tempo and stylistic acrobatics (‘Record Skip’).” – Bobby Tanzilo onMilwaukee.com

In addition to the band’s portfolio of original compositions, they often include cover songs in their energetic live performances such as Janis Joplin ‘Piece of My Heart’, Don Gibson ‘Oh Lonesome Me’ and The Pretender’s ‘Chain Gang’.

Each of the band members has accomplished much on their own as well… Ginny was fortunate to tour the U.K. with The Psychobunnies, who were signed to Nervous Records out of London. Kari and Laura recorded a single at the Chicago Recording Company for the independent movie “Bored Silly”. Kristen has been an active member of the Milwaukee music community playing in local bands since the mid 90's. Debra was actively drumming in the Chicago area when she saw Dropmore Scarlet perform live in 2004 -- it was rock'n'roll love at first sight!

Lyrics

Virgo

Written By: Kristen Kakatsch

She grows colder by the second
Her smile fades by the mile
And the last thing I wanna do is go out for a while

So I sit and watch the TV
Or play her favorite CD
Cuz I know, she’ll be comin’ home

We’ve been over and over it all
About a million times before
And I’ve stayed to see that smile of hers for too long

So I sit and watch the TV
Or play her favorite CD
Cuz I know, she’ll be comin’ home

You see it’s been like this so long that I can’t go on anymore
But I’ll sit here and wait one last time
Cuz I know you’re comin’ home

She grows fainter in the distance
Her smile fades by the mile
And the first thing I wanna do, is go out for awhile

So forget the couch and TV
I’ve burned all of her CDs
Cuz I know, she ain’t comin’ home

You’ve taken my dignity, your love has been hollow to the core
A shallow mind and soul, you know won’t get you further down the road

Reach around the way back home
Find the light and off you go
Can’t say as when we’ll meet again
But trust dear girl we’ll meet once more

Record Skip

Written By: Ginny Wiskowski

Once in awhile you might glimpse the smile
Of the elusive girl in the ethereal world
Now and again and you won’t know when
You might see the lips of a thousand ships…

There is no meeting of the minds with her
There is no too cruel to be kind to her
And though I think I could go blind from her
It’s only wanting to unwind from her

There is no metaphor to sing my heart
When every little thing just falls apart
And so unlucky from the very start
There is no meeting of the minds…

There is no runaway romantic trip
There is no clever way to come off hip
There’s only heartache and a lot of lip
And you can hear the broken record skip… record skip… record skip…

There is no meeting of the minds with her
There is no too cruel to be kind to her
And though I think I could go blind from her
It’s only wanting to unwind from her

There is no metaphor to sing my heart
When every little thing just falls apart
And so unlucky from the very start
There is no meeting of the minds…

There is no better way to pass the time
Than for the one that you will always pine
Just when you think that every thing is fine
There is no meeting of the minds…

Pretty Lip

Written By: Ken Harrison and Roberta Harrison

I’m not the perfect sister
I’m just the wounded one
I was created to compare
I’ll quit while she’s ahead
I’ve finally found the rent
I’ll memorize the words to
Every other line she says and…

She’s got pretty little lips
She’s got perfect skin and I
Wonder why I even try
To disappoint you…
I could draw a diagram
I could point it at your mouth
I could stroke you till your blind
Would I disappoint you?

She’s got good intentions
The kind that make me squirm
She’s like the movie of the week
I’ve seen her kind before yeah
So pretty and adored yeah
So empty and so free that
I’d forgotten, I’d forgotten

She’s got pretty little lips
She’s got perfect skin and I
Wonder why I even try
To disappoint you…
I could draw a diagram
I could point it at your mouth
I could stroke you till your blind
Would I disappoint you?

I’m not the perfect sister
I’m just the wounded one
I was created to compare
One day I’ll make the cut yeah
I’ll put it down in blood yeah
I’ll make you wish that it was
Any other any other way

She’s got pretty little lips
She’s got perfect skin and I
Wonder why I even try
To disappoint you…
I could draw a diagram
I could point it at your mouth
I could stroke you till your blind
Would I disappoint you?
