Dry Run

This past Christmas, 2009, I, Savannah, decided to record a CD of all the songs I had written within the past year and a half and give it to my dad for a present. Well Andrew Smith, the guitarist, was a pretty good friend of mine and I asked him to help me out and write a guitar part to Blackcurrant Shining. Then I realized how beautiful it would sound if the violin came in playing the melody in the beginning, so I asked Ray D'Alessio to play the violin with me for this CD too and asked my friend Lindsay Oncken if she would sing the harmonies. Two weeks before the recording date we got together and I taught them the 5 songs and we practiced a couple times and then it was on a disc and being mailed out to family and given out to friends. My dad loved it, and so did everyone who helped out so we decided to stay and keep working together to make the album We Navigate.

Our main influences are Brandi Carlile, Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michaelson, The Swell Season and The Frames, Coldplay, The Shins, and my daddy. What sets us apart from other bands that appear around our area is that we are all choir kids, or guitar wizards, or concert masters in orchestra. We all come from a really musical upbringing and theoretical musical knowledge and it all mixes in well with the creative aspect of writing your own music and allows for our songs to be dry runs sometimes.
