When their first album, A Town Called Addis, was released back in 2008 it was hailed as one of the most inventive fusion albums of the year, with its blend of contemporary and traditional Ethiopian styles, jazz and dub reggae. Having started out as a studio-based project, Dub Colossus went on to prove that they were also a rousing 12 piece live band, with Dubulah stepping back and encouraging the Ethiopian and UK musicians to dominate many of the songs on stage.
The Dub Colossus Sound System is a more dance/dj dub experience with a compact 5 piece line up, based around a DJ with laptop sequencer and sonic effects, augmented by live percussion, bass, drums and vocals as well as live dubbing, with female Jamaican MC PJ and Greek/Anglo Dubulah keeping the cultural confusion fresh and sizzling!
