Roots Reggae artiste Dubkore is set to release the music video for his latest single The Same Routine, which also features new female artiste Empress Que. The singer/musician says that the story line of the video depicts the harsh realities of everyday ghetto living. "I want the video to highlight the plight of the people in the ghetto. People in these depressed parts of our country live a life that's totally different from what most other Jamaicans are accustomed to. This situation has been going on far too long and the people need a change they are tired of the same routine. They need a brighter and better tomorrow," said the artist.

The video's lead role is played by Dubkore's long time associate and collaborator Mr Goff, who plays the role of a blind man who is walking through the ghetto. However despite his blindness it seems he his able to see all that is happening around him and it's not pretty. "Dubkore reaping musical success"

The singer, who is also a classically trained pianist, is finally enjoying some much, deserved success in the local music business, after years of toiling. He recently cracked the Top 10 of the RETV Top 20 Reggae Chart with his hit single Little Love Story, where it peaked at number seven.

Since embarking on his musical journey over a decade ago, Dubkore has been making what he describes as "good roots music". However, Dubkore's music found favour, with music lovers in the US long before he even began to get airplay in Jamaica.

Over the last few years, Dubkore and his Pick It Up band has thrilled reggae music fans in the US at major music festivals such as Bay Fest in Mobile, Alabama, Cutting Edge Music Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana and Red River Revel in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Dubkore will be leaving the island in a few weeks time for two shows in the US. The first one will be at the Dub Club in Los Angeles on August 4. After that event, he will perform three days later at the Caribbean Cricket Club' first annual Caribbean Day Celebrations at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, California on August 7.

Dubkore is also preparing to step up the promotion for his latest single, Same Routine. The single, which also features upcoming female artiste Empress Que, has been receiving steady rotation since its release over a month ago. "Dubkore's struggles coming to an end"

Driven by his love for music, Colin 'Dubkore' Llewellyn has remained persistent in his pursuit of building a solid music career.

The soft-spoken Rastafarian, who resides in Spanish Town, St Catherine, said he has seen many come and go and has the humility to deal with the successes and the mettle to handle the disappointments.

The versatile musician said his music career began professionally in 1997 and he has performed overseas in Pensacola, Florida, and Alabama. But his most successful musical effort came in 1979 at the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission Festival of the Arts competition where he earned a silver medal playing the piano.

numerous struggles

After numerous struggles to get producers' attention, the St George's College graduate, who has high hopes for the single Little Love Story, which was recorded on the Dream Girl rhythm, ventured out in faith in 2006 and formed his label Pikki Head Productions. That label released Dream Girl rhythm, which features Capleton, Lutan Fyah and former Rising Stars group Que. Dubkore is convinced that, despite the label's slow progress, things will pick up as it has been gaining increased attention.

"The reason for the record was because of the struggles I faced getting producers' attention. You have producers who don't deal with you straight up. The label is getting a lot of attention right now, which was different from when it started out," said the singer, who studied business administration at Excelsior Community College.

Also on Dubkore's musical agenda is an upcoming 14-track album (not yet named), which he believes will be ready by year end. Mother Earth is one of the songs slated to be on the album and Dubkore is becoming more convinced that his days of struggles are quickly coming to an end.

"It's an uphill battle but what keeps you going is that your hard work will pay off one day. I don't know how to explain it, but the love I have for music is unimaginable and I can see the hard times changing," he added.

While he awaits his date with destiny, the singer admitted he will continue drawing inspiration from the words of National Hero Marcus Garvey.

"Remember, it's Marcus who said, 'Music is the highest communication known to man'. I believe my music will have a positive effect on people because of the originality it brings," he said. - The Jamaica Star

Bio

Colin Llewellyn aka “Dubkore” was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. His introduction to music came at an early age and by way of the piano. A highly influential father encouraged him to take music lessons. His skills further developed and lead him to the silver medal, after his performance at the Jamaican Cultural Development Commission Music Festival and Arts Competition in 1979.

The versatile singer, songwriter and musician did not really see himself becoming a musician while growing up. His teenage years saw him highly in tuned with the dancehall music scene and most of his spare time was taken up by his home stereo system which eventually evolved into the Black Warriors sound system.

The new millennium gave Llewellyn a deeper passion for roots music as he wanted not just to entertain but to send a message and maintain the core values of reggae music. "The redemption of reggae music" as he terms it, has seen him team up with Goff, a fellow song writer and Bass player. The story is that Goff heard Colin sing during a sound check for an event. Goff invited him to join his band and soon after Colin's musical career was headed in a new direction. He subsequently took on the name "Dubkore" and has not looked back. His backing band, consisting of musicians such Bernard "Maaga Joint" Powell and Carvel "Glan" Walker, has had worldwide experience as well.

Dubkore has successfully created and cultivated a collection of unique lyrics and rhythms. He has also recorded and released many songs such as Veranda, Madda Earth and Same Routine. These songs were an integral part of his debut album Arrogant Man, released in 2010. The smash hit "Little Love Story," rose to the number one spot on several charts including RETV's MVP top ten. It remained on the top 20 reggae charts for over three consecutive months.

Dubkore electrifies his audience with a live brand of reggae heavily flavored by local musicians. This results in a sound emanating high energy and reminiscent of a roots rock experience. This passionate singer has toured all over Jamaica, California, Southeastern United States and the eastern seaboard. Colin states, "Remember, it's Marcus Garvey who said, 'Music is the highest communication known to man'. I believe my music will have a positive effect on people because of its originality.“ Dubkore intends on keeping the integrity of the music while pleasing conscious minds and bringing hope to millions around the world.

The Pick It Up Band consists:

Goff Andrews on Bass
Bernard "Maag Joint" Powell on the Drums
Carvel "Glan" Walker on the Keyboards
Courtland "Gizzmo" White on the Guitar
