"Music Review"

Duchamp's music is an incredible concoction of moody atmosphere, is as thick as it gets - melt into a melodic sea of hauntingly beautiful darkness that floats your way. I can imagine a listen through headphones, in the right environment, could yield a truly powerful experience. The perspective, achieved during my listening sessions, is that of being suspended in air as the mysterious unknown unfolds around me. It's a weird but fantastic mixture of soundscapes and experimental, ambient jazz. The soundscapes are not simply decoration, but are an integral part of the music.

Duchamp show their versatility and originality in their pieces with a unique perspective on composing. They create a superb melancholic atmosphere around a horn sound woven in electronic effects, captivating listeners with a sophisticated hybrid of styles that is difficult to categorize. Just when you don't expect it, the unexpected arrives and this time, what an unexpected pleasure to hear.

Duchamp draws from an impressive palette to create layered, tempered songs, a piece of music with no borders. The common threads in their music are adept musicianship, jazz-inspired instrumentation and arrangements, an improvisational feel, lots of angularity and an almost annoying penchant for eclecticism. This is the type of music that a listener will never grow tired of because of its constantly shifting sonic soundscapes that relentlessly challenge the listener. With one theme after another, transitioning with constantly unpredictable directional changes, they often resolve into profoundly and deeply satisfying conclusions. - J. Stearns

Bio

Duchamp is a shape-shifting improvisational group from Chicago, hosted by bassist Jim Ford. Duchamp uses jazz-inspired instrumentation in a rock n roll setting, introducing modern prog and psyche twists. The group is a melting pot of musical influences, from blues, funk, rock and punk to avant-garde, jazz, classical and electronic music. Each member plays an equally significant role in the band's total sound, adding color to their abstract pieces with a wide variety of instruments and devices. Played with the looseness of free jazz and the ferocity of punk rock, their music is a collage of atmospheres that is difficult to define. Duchamp continues to evolve their sound, searching for the holy grail of musical expression.
