Ernie and Will grew up together in Statesboro, GA. Ernie went to college in Illinois, where he started playing music with Scott Sapp. Together they recorded Tomboy Jr. EP before relocating to Athens, GA after college. Their music stands out for tensions it creates between opposing forces: songs have musical intricacies to them but pop formats and tasteful playing allow tracks to come off as straight ahead. The music is at once both placidly melodic and chaotic through use of sheer volume, distortion, speed, loose feels, and wide dynamic range. Lastly, the intimate, vulnerable vocals fit for ballads are a strong contrast to the walls of sound over which they are sung. The music goes places and has a lot going on that one can easily digest and enjoy.
