"Concert Review: Outsider Music Festival, NYC"

When you see Yoko Ono waiting for the next band to take the stage, you wait with her. Not to name drop, but you have to assume that she knows one or two things about spotting talent. Once the band that we all were waiting for took the stage, I knew why Yoko was standing in a crowd of hipsters at 1 am in NYC's megaclub, Crobar. The glam/pop/rock group, DUKE, is a live show not to forget. Led by two highly contagious, charismatic lead singers, John Michael and Nathan S. deliver pop hook after pop hook, new rock fashion, and picture frame worthy movement with every one of their 'move your hips and throw your hands in the air' songs. Also not to miss a beat, is their band that flows just as well from the hip-hop tinged beats, sleek dance grooves, and punk anthems that make DUKE a melting pot of current music culture. Where are you gonna take me next, Yoko? - Time Out New York (U.S.A.)/November 2004/Anthony Chevis

"outFRONT reviews"

Whether it's simply wow production values or a bona fide homage to underground '80s synthetic music, Duke echoes early Dead or Alive, Deee-Lite, and even, at times, Book of Love on their fun and confident-if-raw debut album. Composed of John Michael and Nathan. The duo honor their White Duke namesake: They're gritty, tough, androgynous, and glam- in a ripped fishnet sort of way. - OUT magazine (U.S.A.)/April 2006/Matthew Breen

"Glitter and gold, mascara and mayhem, street and penthouse glam."

The New York act Duke is charged and ready to party. Who can blame them? It has been an amazing year for the band Duke -an international tour, a multitude of photo shoots and a burgeoning fan base that spans the globe. - BON magazine (U.S.A.)/March 2006/Kathryn DeVito

"New York band to watch."

Distant cousins of the Scissor Sisters, Duke is a street band from New York hot on the heels of success. With their disco-punk sound and style Duke attacks the audience with a fist full of pop. Check out their brillantly mastered cover of Billy Idols, 'White Wedding'. - MAX magazine (Paris, Fr)/October 2005/Herve le Tan

"They are wild!"

coming soon... - DAZED&CONFUSED (Japan)/April 2006/Sakiko Fukuhara

Bio

New York’s pop duo, DUKE, have already left their mark on the New York music scene in a big way, and word is spreading. Their brazenly fabulous, notorious performances have recently garnered lavish praise in London, Paris, Tokyo and more cities to come.

On crisscrossing nightlife paths, John Michael and Nathan met in New York City’s underground scene. Coming from a background in theater and fashion, both shared the same vision for entertainment in music: energetic live shows and catchy hooks. The idea for DUKE was instant. The name DUKE was the obvious choice: masculine and powerful, yet glamorous and feminine, alluding to a time when men were beautiful.

In 2005, DUKE released their EP “In Bed w/Her” to an international following gained through their “Hell on Heels Tour”. DUKE’s sound and style has been embraced by the Parisian fashion scene, the art/party Londoners, Downtown hipsters of NYC, and the fanatical tribes of Harajuku.

DUKE’s sleek, glossy sound, laden with filthy flourishes of synthesizer, is nasty enough for the fickle New York music scene, yet screaming for pop audiences worldwide. Just wait for more to come.
