Bio

Dungarvan is a Newfoundland Celtic band based in the St. John's area.
They play Irish and Newfoundland folk songs with a definite Bluegrass influence.
Dungarvan was conceived by Craig Lush and Dave Wicks. Bassist Michael Fisher joined in the fall of 2006. Guitarist & Lead Vocalist Peter “Rocky” Furlong joined in early 2007. Co founding member Dave Wicks left in July 2007 to be replaced by Multi-instrumentalist Al Samms, formally of the Kilkenny Crew.

Dungarvan have played most of the Celtic venues in St. John’s and Mount Pearl as well as summer festivals such as the Kelligrews Sorriee, Shamrock Festival in Ferryland, Conception Bay Folk Festival in Carbonear and The George Street Festival to name a few.

Dungarvan have also helped in many charitable events such as the Mount Pearl Support The Troops event and Special Olympics fundraiser.

The band took its name from the song "The Old Dungarvan Oak".
Dungarvan is a town on the south east coast of Ireland in the County Waterford and is considered the cultural capital of the area.
Dave Wicks found the lyrics to the song, both he and Craig thought it would be a great song to perform and also would be a great name for the band.
Look for a new CD coming in 2009.
