"Dunktank Makes A Splash in West Michigan"

Cash and Cool.

No, these aren't adjectives for the band DUNKTANK. These are the members.

If Michigan rock had a spokesperson, the lead singer, Cash, of the Kalamazoo band would be it. With grunge style and spiked Mohawk, Cash looks and plays the part of lead rocker. The self-titled album is 12 songs reminiscing of '90s rock and metal, such as Metallica and Fuel.

"Down" opens for the album, jumping right in the tank. The stage is set with this song; deep-voiced lyrics and guitar solos sprinkled here and there. The only way to listen to this song is with long-haired head banging.

Battling between good and evil, DUNKTANK has strong, powerful tunes mixed in with softer riffs and lyrics. DUNKTANK is making the attempt to rekindle the flame to '90s metal.

Bio

This group of local music veterans began to take shape around two years ago when Ca$h returned to Kalamazoo
from Arizona. He hooked up with Denison and Seth with thoughts of forming a band. To tighten up, they made
a list of 48 cover songs -- material from Tool, Alice in Chains, Judas Priest and Stone Temple Pilots,
among others --and started jamming to reacquaint themselves with each other musically.

Then, it came down to finding a drummer. They brought in a slew of guys, asking they learn all 48 covers.
Cool was lucky No. 7. He joined the band 13 months ago and DUNKTANK looked to the full-length.

They started laying tracks about nine months ago in Seth's basement studio dubbed "The Seth Lab."

Ca$h and Denison said the band has been able to make a decent income by playing cover shows to help pay to
produce their original tunes.

On the CD, you'll get a blend of '90s grunge rock and late '80s metal. At points, Ca$h's vocals sound
reminiscent of Chris Cornell from early Soundgarden days, minus the glass-shattering high notes. The early
'90s is the period when Ca$h first developed his appreciation for rock. He said he's cool if people say he
sounds like Cornell or other '90s rockers.

"It just comes out," he said.

Among the highlights for DUNKTANK is the track "Full On Quiet" and "D.P.U.," which stands for "DUNKTANK
Party Unit," or the band's group of hardcore fans.

"They're crazy folks who come out and are there all the time," Denison said. "They're almost family."
