Baltimore rapper, Kenton Dunson is the latest amongst a throng of rappers to hit the scene, but trust us, this one has longevity. Think a mashup of Childish Gambino and J Cole, with a little less aggression and more relatability. But don’t take our word for it, before reading any further we suggest a backing track, The Investment… - International Music Conference

Kenton Dunson quit his job as an investment advisor during the height of the recession to do what?… wait for it… become a rapper! (No, seriously) After three years of the corporate world, the Maryland native got tired of putting his love for music on the back burner, or in his mind, after 5pm. After much thought, the rapper/producer gave his two weeks and chucked his professional deuces.
Three mixtapes and three years later, Dunson found his lane, but not without struggle. On his latest mixtape “The Investment” sonically blends feel good music with honest, vulnerable lyrics–a contrast not often heard in hip hop. He phoned in fresh off his Philly show. We chopped it up about everything from the time he couldn’t afford a haircut to the moment when his homeboy and mentor John (that’s John Legend to you) asked him to open up a show for him. We even bonded over our mutual hate for that b*tch Sallie Mae. C’mon ya’ll..this one is worth the investment (pun intended) - Giant Life Magazine

Bio
After resigning from his career as a Baltimore-based financial advisor in 2010, the Maryland native decided to follow his dreams and pursue a career in Hip Hop. After spending a multitude of years playing in bands of different genres, Dunson, who is also a multi-instrumentalist, took the chance to become a solo artist, focusing heavily on lyrics and production. He has since grown an internet support base proven through the success of his self-produced Creative Destruction mixtape series, and most recent release, The Investment.
As Dunsons sound evolved, it caught the ear of Grammy-nominated production team, Phatboiz (John Legend, Ne-Yo, Miguel), with whom he eventually signed a production deal. By the summer of 2012, Dunson had performed live for packed crowds at some of New York Citys most legendary venues, such as Highline Ballroom, S.O.B.s and Santos Party House where he was featured as a BET Music Matters featured artist. He also opened for his long-time idol, John Legend in Philadelphia, PA at Temple University in April 2012. On July 31, 2012, Dunson released his anticipated mixtape, The Investment, which features several guest appearances including multi-platinum selling artist John Legend, Bronx rapper Mickey Factz and Swedish rapper, Lazee. Dunson was recently featured on Grammy-winning singer, Chrisette Michele's new album Better.
