Duo Turco

Duo Turco was founded by combining the two main instruments widely used in Turkish music: the oud and the kanun. The group has a wide repertoire consisting of not only the compositions of oud player/singer Ismail Fencioglu and kanun player Didem Basar, but also instrumental and vocal pieces dating from the 17th century in classical, folk, religious and popular styles of Turkish music. The pieces are sung by Ismail Fencioglu. In addition to their own repertoire, Duo Turco performs with a variety of music groups that play world music throughout Canada, particularly in Montreal. The goal of the duo is to introduce Turkish music to North Americans without modifying the originality of songs and to reflect their feelings to the audience through their compositions.
