With a BBC World Music Awards ‘Best Newcomer’ award under their belts for their debut album, the duo of Jean-Pierre Smadja (Smadj) and Medhi Haddab’s have already stirred up a storm on the world music and global beats scene. Blending the traditional North African lute with modern electronic music to create a beautiful hybrid of old and new, Smadj and Haddab’s unique style bows to no norms, while still respecting the star of thier show: the Oud.
