"Music Critic - Jazz Review by Wilbert Sostre"

Even though I'm not a big fan of electronic rhythms I can see the commercial potential for this one, especially on smooth jazz radio stations. Kind of funky/smooth jazz, reminds me of Candy Dulfer music. - Music Critic - Jazz Review by Wilbert Sostre

Bio

Duriye says "Dreams are full of images and sounds…Let your dreams guide your journey...We are each the scriptwriter, creator, and producer of our dream-images". Duriye started to pay more attention to her inner-world and feelings by analyzing her own dreams. She learned the importance of dreams to understand her inner world in her own life journey. She was a graduate student at the University of Texas at Dallas working towards an MFA degree and began to explore this mysterious dream language using sounds. Track 6–Dreamscape is a sound design of her own sleeping time dream. Duriye wanted to include her original dreamscape in this music album to inspire the ones who is interested to explore their dreams through sounds. This new album of music that Duriye produced has helped her to heal her own psychic wounds through sounds. My music represents her inner being inspired by sounds of dreams, as well as by familiar sounds that surround me such as Istanbul, Dallas, and friends. Duriye says "I believe I have found a way of transferring them to symbolic representations, which are musical notations."
As a cross-cultural musician, Duriye blends her own cultural roots with contemporary jazz and funk beats. Duriye started this journey in 1999 with Ayhan Sicimoglu in Istanbul Turkey, and studied Afro-Cuban rhythms. From performing with Las Estrellas in Istanbul under Ayhan Sicimoglu's Afro-Cuban Project, Duriye continues her journey in Dallas performing with different musicians in Latin, Jazz, Rock, Folk and Funk styles since 2004, along with her own band “Duriye & Friends." As a conga player, it’s been important for her to apply the fundamentals of Afro-Cuban rhythms with the proper technique and discipline.
