Leave You Just The Way You Are

Written By: Dutch Vanderpool

Leave You Just The Way You Are

Well I found you where she said you would be

Happy Hour at the Bar and Grill

Sitting on a bar stool, whiskey bottle half full

Looking like you’ve been through the mill.

There’s a pretty little girl whose been sitting at home

Alone and wondering how

The man that pledged his love to her

Became the man I’m looking at now.

She sent me here to tell you this

‘Cause we go back as friends pretty far

She said she’s through trying to change you

She’s going to leave you just the way you are.

I remember back in the good old days

When we were working side by side

Every day we’d close shop you’d be headed non-stop

Home to see your beautiful bride.

But before too long you were scrambling up

That ladder to fortune and fame

You grew to like the taste of sweet success

And you flew too close to that flame.
You told her to stop bothering you

When she said you stay too long at the bar

Well, she’s through trying to change you

She’s going to leave you just the way you are.

You know it makes no sense to me, my friend

I just can’t understand

Why you chase that bird that’s in the bush

When you have a dove in your hand.

Well I guess it doesn’t matter anyway

Go ahead and chase your next big deal

Burn the midnight hours, scale your ivory towers

Forget how loving her used to feel

By the time you finally figure it out

Why you’re never happy anymore

You’ll be standing inside an empty house

Looking out through an open door.

Cause she has finally come to see

She hitched her wagon to a falling star

She’s through trying to change you

She’s going to leave you just the way you are.

Yeah she packed up all that she has left

And tossed it into the back of her car

She knows she’ll never change you

She’s going to leave you just the way you are.

Yeah, she’s through trying to change you

She’s going to leave you just the way you are.

If We Weren't Different

Written By: Dutch Vanderpool

f We Weren’t Different

My baby ain’t much for getting in touch
With nature ‘round a campfire
And I just can’t see any reason for me
To get fitted out in formal attire

She likes long discussions
That have an intellectual air
And I nod and take note
While I find the remote
In the cushions of my easy chair

My friends all ask me
What brought you two together?
It’s easy to see you’re not birds of a feather
But we took love as it came
Love turned friction into flame
If we weren’t different
We’d never be the same

I always pick up my clothes and put my stuff where it goes
And keep the seat in the proper position
She throws her clothes on the chair; can’t find a thing she can wear
And if she does it’s in a wrinkled condition

I can go on and on about pickups and guitars
And she seems to agree while she flips the TV
To watch Emeril make vee shee swars
(spoken) Or something like that

My friends all ask me
What keeps you two together?
It’s easy to see you’re not birds of a feather
But we took love as it came
Love turned friction into flame
If we weren’t different
We’d never be the same

I don’t suppose we’ll ever know
The reason we connected
It’s just a little puzzle in the good Lord’s grand design
But we’re content to leave the mouth
Of that gift horse uninspected
You reach the sweetest berries through the thorns upon the vine

My friends all ask me
What keeps you two together?
It’s easy to see you’re not birds of a feather
But we took love as it came
Love turned friction into flame
If we weren’t different
We’d never be the same
Yeah if we weren’t different
We’d never be the same
Well, if we weren’t different
We’d never be the same.

Two Hearts

Written By: Dutch Vanderpool

Too crazy to imagine
Too simple not to see
Two people come to realize
That they were meant to be

To everyone around them
To family and friends
It’s not too hard to figure out
Just what the Lord intends

One beloved daughter
One beloved son
What the Lord has joined together
Let no man make undone

In the presence of the Father,
Holy Spirit and the Son
Two hearts come together
To forevermore be one.

(Break)

It’s too hard for a husband
Too hard for a wife
To have and hold each other
Through all the trials of life

To face the world together
To make their vows come true
To Jesus they surrender
And to Him they say ’I do’

One beloved daughter
One beloved son
What the Lord has joined together
Let no man make undone

In the presence of the Father,
Holy Spirit and the Son
Two hearts come together
To forevermore be one.

Too crazy to imagine
Too simple not to see
Two people come to realize
That they were meant to be

I Could Stop Missing You

Written By: Dutch Vanderpool

It’s been way too long to still feel this strong

And I’ve just about forgotten how it all went wrong

But I never will forget how real it seemed

Better than we ever could have dreamed

You know I don’t have to feel the way I do

I could stop missing you.

You would always know when I was feeling low

You’d put on some old country song and we’d dance slow

And you wouldn’t let me stop ‘til I would smile

Now the music’s gone and has been for a while

But I know anytime that I want to

I could stop missing you if you want me to

I could give up all those memories that keep me blue

But the only way to do it, the only way I know

Is to find you and hold you and never let you go

If you let me trade old memories for new

I could stop missing you.

I think about that day you cried and drove away

You said you were no longer sure that you should stay

You thought that somehow life might pass you by

And like a caged bird I just let you fly

But why should I keep hurting like I do

I could stop missing you if you want me to

I could give up all those memories that keep me blue

But the only way to do it, the only way I know

Is to find you and hold you and never let you go

If you let me trade old memories for new

I could stop missing you.

Bridge:

Baby, won’t you give us one more chance

Let me be the one to start the dance

And I could stop missing you if you want me to

I could give up all those memories that keep me blue

But the only way to do it, the only way I know

Is to find you and hold you and never let you go

If you let me trade old memories for new

I could stop missing you.
