"AUX-TV Track Of The Week DVAS "Society""

While searching for songs to make my perfect summer mix, I scanned my iTunes for songs that I’d accumulated in the past couple of weeks. Sitting there wanting to be heard again was “Society” by DVAS.
The first single off Dietzche V. and the Abominable Snowman’s (DV and AS) full-length album with the same name, this track’s infectious electro-dance delivers. Definitely recommended for something to take to the dancefloor in these scorching days of summer. Look for the album in stores July 27th. Pre-order from Upper Class or iTunes.

The song comes in video form, where the guy gets the girl:

"Hot Disc: DVAS SOCIETY "Move over Katy Perry...""

Loving the DVAS new album Society (Upper Class Recordings)–out this week. The title track is a splash of funk, a dash of electro and a whole lotta disco. Move over Katy Perry, I’ve found my summer anthem.

"Mozart Can Go Fuck Himself!"

DVAS specialize in unapologetic, life-affirming dance music.

And yet founder and mastermind Jered Stuffco isn't afraid to take his blissful grooves away from the dance floor and into the seedier corners of his adopted hometown of Toronto.

"There is a bar in the west end off Dupont called PM Toronto that is the total real deal," he told CHARTattack during a recent interview. "No imported microbrews or organic stuff. Just real Canadian beer and hardcore alcoholics.

"Playing at a place like that would be the best way of keeping it real in this city. I'd love for DVAS to hit that room some day."

Stuffco has a lot on his plate in the interim. DVAS have just released their first proper studio full-length, Society, and the album has already received plenty of attention from MuchMusic, The Globe And Mail and beyond.

Society might've been taken as kitsch five years ago, but now it matches up nicely alongside similar regressive futurists like Chromeo and LCD Soundystem. This is dance music with a pulse, and it boasts an immediacy that few rookie acts can match.

Bear in mind, Stuffco is hardly a rookie. Since 2003, he's used the DVAS moniker to release singles, remix for artists like Cadence Weapon and amass internet mixtapes featuring forgotten favourites from Grace Jones, Tangerine Dream and (uh...) Ian Thomas.

Amid all the activity, DVAS has been a bit of a start-stop proposition. Stuffco moved to Toronto from his native Edmonton in the mid-2000s and spent the middle part of the decade basically devoid of sound in some far-flung parts of the globe. He hung up the DVAS banner when attentions were needed elsewhere.

"Back in 2006, I had a life-changing moment in the midst of a church in Bolivia, where I openly wept and started a different path from that moment on," Stuffco says.

"I then spent eight months in Egypt where I didn't write a single note of music or touch a musical instrument.

"Once I returned to Toronto, I wrote 10 songs really, really quickly and realized just how much I missed music. Some of the songs on Society originate from that burst."

Society is the perfect album for keeping the heavenly spirit of summer alive right through the autumn months. Expect further collaborations and remixes in future, since DVAS are already booked for a Pop Montreal showcase this September alongside the Russian Futurists.

While Stuffco is grateful for the musical connections he made through DVAS, he does get a touch winsome upon discussion of theoretical dream collaborations, past or present.

"I'd love to collaborate with mid-'70s Brian Wilson, when he was totally drug-addled and insane, yet making this amazing, timeless music," he says. Either Brian or [18th century Italian composer Antonio] Salieri, who you might remember as Mozart's rival if you ever saw the movie Amadeus.

"He [Salieri] was way less talented, but seemed like a pretty intense dude and an interesting cat. Besides, I tend to go for the underdog, so Mozart can go fuck himself!"

"NNNN Now Magazine CD Review - DVAS - Society"

DVAS
Society (Upper Class) BY JORDAN BIMM
Thanks to Upper Class Recordings, Toronto-based Casio Casanovas DVAS finally have a proper full-length album, and it’s loaded with the band’s catchy mix of smooth first-date hooks à la Chromeo and Daft Punkesque robot-rocking synths.

Soaked in hi-NRG beats and disco grooves, and seemingly programmed to elicit buckets of sweat and bedroom eyes on secret after-party dance floors, songs like Ambient Room and Inner Sanctum recall the instant catchiness of shameless 80s lovers Futurecop!, while Back 2 Basix is a jazz flute, dim-the-lights slow jam perfect for when you’ve got a hottie back at your place.

With its pristine production and memorable songwriting, Society is 2010’s summer make-out record.

"Upper Class Signing Press Release"

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DVAS SIGN TO UPPER CLASS RECORDINGS
NEW “SOCIETY” IN 2010
“Divan Orange was at capacity with a large crowd trying to get in to see
Toronto’s DVAS…The band makes us think a little bit of Journey’s More
Than A Feeling re-imagined as house music, and that formula works way
better than it should. The whole Phil-Collins-on-ecstasy vibe is silly
enough to be fun, and catchy enough to stick in your head for the rest of
the night. The club was so steamy and sweaty that our video camera kept
fogging up” – NOW Magazine
“One of my favourite electronic bands in Toronto” - BlogTO
It started in Edmonton, spread to Toronto & Montreal and begins to circle
the world – an infectious musical exploration that’s filtered into the ears
of London Hipsters, Parisian electro-kids right through to New York
Fashionistas. The creators of this musical blitzkrieg are DVAS, a pair of
electro-dance innovators who have busted-beats from their hometown in
Edmonton alongside label mate Cadence Weapon and local pals Faunts
and Shout Out Out Out Out.
Dietzche V. and the Abominable Snowman’s French touch will take you on
a dangerous and sexy journey of disco, funk, and soul with their bounceheavy
set of emotional and summer-y electro house anthems. They may
share some attributes with the space sounds of Daft Punk and pop legacy
of Hall And Oates, but DVAS bring intense originality and innovation to up
the ante on dance floor pop jams.
DVAS have released three internet-only mixtapes, a slew of remixes
including a lethal-mash of Cadence Weapon’s “Getting Dumb”, available
exclusively on Cadence Weapon’s iTunes release of the Separation
Anxiety EP, and have brand new track “Inner Sanctum” featured on the
2009 France based blog turned label, Valerie; “Valerie And Friends”
Compilation.
As 2009 draws to a close for most of us, it is only the beginning for
DVAS. They made their Upper Class live debut at Pop Montreal for ‘Le UC
Throwdown 09’ Showcase at Divan Orange, Saturday October 3rd
alongside new label-mates, The Cansecos & Cadence Weapon and locals
Silly Kissers and CFCF. January will see the anthem-in-waiting “Society”
single dropped on turntables the world over, helping each of us get
through the bleak winter months with that chunky slice of emphatic
energy-induced music we oh-so-crave at the beginning of each new year.
2010 will be packed full of live dates, festivals, mixes and remixes, but
best of all, their brand new LP will burst onto the scene in the early
summer months.
“Society”, the album will be released summer 2010 on their new abode
Upper Class Recordings, the Toronto-based label responsible for bringing
you influential and notable artists The Russian Futurists, Cadence
Weapon, Girlsareshort (MSTRKRFT Al-P’s original project) and The
Cansecos.

SOCIETY

“DANCE FLOOR DYNAMITE” iTunes Single Of The Week

DVAS has garnered the attention of electro dance devotees across the globe through their high quality/hi-NRG mixtapes, remixes and compilations. Originally forming in Edmonton, Jered Stuffco and collaborator Darren Veres released a series of tracks and EPs under the moniker Dietzche V. and the Abominable Snowman, before abbreviating the name to DVAS, making the move to Toronto and signing with Upper Class to release their full-length “Society”.

The first single and title track “Society” became a summer anthem in North America earning DVAS iTunes “Single of the Week.” The perfect kick off to the beat driven debut album that mixes disco, funk and soul with enthralling energy. The “Society” video debuted worldwide on AOL’s Spinner.com and gained Canada-wide airplay on national music television channels MuchMusic, MuchMoreMusic, Aux-TV and BPM: TV, and has gone from 0 to 15000 views on youtube in a blink. The single peaked at #3 on CBC Radio 3/Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 86; and the album knocked Crystal Castles out of the #1 National RPM Chart. Since then the band has shared the stage across Canada and the USA with the likes of Xiu Xiu, Designer Drugs, The Hood Internet, and Diamond Rings as “Society” entered the Top 10 on USA’s CMJ RPM Chart. Special thanks to The Hood Internet for delivering a super-fly remix of ‘Society’ featuring Chicago MC Kid Static.

DVAS may share some attributes with the space disco sounds of Daft Punk and pop legacy of Hall And Oates, but they bring intense originality and innovation to up the ante on the pop jams and the dance floor. Lyrically the album plays out like a story of a bad boy gone good; off the top we hear tales of hitting VIP clubs and young ladies on the tracks ‘Society’, ‘Consenting Adults’ and ‘Watching You’ but it isn’t long before we’re experiencing the ache of long-distance love in ‘Back 2 Basix’ and by the end you’re ready for the philosophical reprise of ‘Giving It All Away’ and the epic instrumental closer ‘Passionate Persuasion’. DVAS front man Jered Stuffco emits as much emotional persuasion in his performance as he reveals in the songs he’s penned. Fabulous, glamorous, and banging enough to bring down the club; cerebral enough to stand up to the staunchest of critics.
