Dublin based, conflict-rockers Dwelling For Jackals join the long line of musical talent from a country so rich in musical heritage. After dwelling on the unusual band name for a few moments I took the liberty of looking up the genre, ‘conflict –rock,’ the results included information on war and a band called Conflict. Neither of these would help me review these guys so let’s assume that this is a new genre, and it starts with this self-titled EP release.
The opening track, ‘Last Sleep,’ gives the listener U2 style guitar and strong vocals which launches into a catchy chorus. The opening riff sets up the vocals which lead the show as the track progresses into a feel good poppy chorus. These vibes continue with, ‘Solitary Confinement ( City of Kings)’ which hands over to the piano to back the vocals before the guitars take over for the climax of the track. The haunting quality of the piano does much to bring out the vocals here and provides a refreshing change of sound in this guitar dominated EP. The catchy riffs again play their part as the track moves through into a well -executed ending with the solo piano signing off. ‘Apocalypse, Whenever You’re Ready,’ is the third track on the EP. The reigns are handed over to acoustic guitar and vocal highlighting the quality of the voice and the strong song writing ability these four possess. The comforting chords of the guitar bring the group back to basics without the help of drums and bass to hide behind. In many ways acoustic tracks stand out the most and this is definitely not an exception, showing that the band can deliver with or without the electric elements. The final track, ‘I Am Bedlam,’ is an energetic finish to this EP giving us again strong choruses and a melody bold enough to lift anyone having a bad day out of the pits of despair. - Live Music Scene
"..a talented lot drawing their inspiration from bands such as A7X, 30 Seconds to Mars and Nine Inch Nails. Their songs are like a calamity of the good songs from these bands.." - The Open-Mic - The Open - Mic
