Demetrius Lumpkin (born January 19, 1993), better known by his stage name DYFL, is an American recording artist and songwriter. DYFL is known for his appearance in the BETtelevision series, "One Shot", which was hosted by Sway Calloway and starred Crooked I, DJ Khaled and many more.[1] DYFL has also worked with Wyclef Jean on his "Inspired By" mixtape[2] and has verses on "Keep It 100", "White Girl", and "38" on Jim Jones "Miami Vampin" mixtape.[3]
Early Life
Lumpkin was born on January 19, 1993 in Miami, Florida to parents, Sheena Moorer and Demetrius Lumpkin at North Shore Hospital. DYFL grew up in historical Overtown and later moved to Little Haiti with his mother, father and youngest brother. At age 8, he picked up a notebook in school and wrote rhymes about each topic he had encountered in class, everyday, while being an honor roll student and an athlete year round. With inspiration from Snoop Dogg, Lil Bow Wow, Nelly, and Tupac Shakur, DYFL began writing music of his own. At age 14 he was introduced to Cool and Dreand began recording in their studio. After his parents split, DYFL was kicked out of private school, quit sports and channeled all of his focus towards music. He later enrolled to Booker T Washington High School (Miami) , became "Mr. Booker T Washington" his senior year, and graduated with a 3.9 GPA. He was offered a scholarship to attend The University Of Florida but decided to stay home in Miami, to pursue his music career.
