BandRockBlues

I'm a British Indian singer/songwriter playing blues, folk & rock influenced music. For me, songs are about expression of the human condition. I play an eclectic mix of music due to my background & tastes. My voice is unique for western music due to my Indian heritage & have a full 3 octave range.

Biography

Dylan Singh is a British born unsigned singer/songwriter of Indian heritage. His family is from Punjab where music is a huge part of culture, folk music in particular. He grew up listening to an eclectic mix of eastern and western music, from Bhangra beats to Delta Blues. He fell in love with Otis Redding's voice and the whole Stax records era at the age of fourteen. And at fifteen, John Lee Hooker jettisoned him into his journey through the blues. The British Blues invasion in the 60's was a big influence, partly for the fact that those bands got the World to recognize the genius of the likes of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, amongst others. Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and classic rock is a staple of the music that has influenced him. On the eastern side, Dylan grew up listening to great singers such as Jagjit Singh, Alam Lohar, Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn and Gurdas Maan. He enjoys listening to everything from Punjabi folk music to Qawwali's to ghazals –and, of course, Bhangra!
Dylan started singing in a choir at an Anglican school in Gloucester when he was a child but eventually took interest into playing drums, tabla and guitar. At thirteen, his parents divorced and he moved to Harrow, London. It proved to be a musical turning point and Dylan turned more and more to music to avoid dealing with issues of racism and loneliness. Singing and playing rhythm guitar has led him into songwriting and he has been writing for several years whilst living in NYC. For Dylan, songs are expression, the thoughts and feelings of someone experiencing life, “Sometimes it's you and sometimes it's a character but it has to be felt. I believe in telling a story to the listener, if they want to listen.”

Lyrics

Lately

Written By: Dylan Singh

Lately, I've been thinking of you
and lately, it's been doing me harm
maybe, sooner or later
maybe, it's time to depart

tell my baby gonna be there out on Sunday
tell my baby gonna be on that killing floor
tell my baby I see her singing 'my way'
tell her she can pack her things the way she likes

lately, it's been about what you want
and lately, I'm past giving more
tell me, if I can take what I want
tell me, and you can take what's yours

tell my baby to head on up to Chicago
tell my baby say goodbye to Tennessee
tell my baby I see her singing 'my way'
tell my baby say goodbye to my loving arms

left here feelin' beaten, sore and bruised
my pride been hurtin' since the day I got back home
tell my baby I'm leaving for Elderado
tell her that I'm done playing with fool's gold

tell my baby to head on up to Chicago
tell my baby say goodbye to Tennessee
tell my baby I see her singing 'my way'
heaven gonna help me man, I know she's gone.

Baby You've Been On My Mind

Written By: Dylan Singh

Talking to you nine to five
words keeping hope alive
I know you want someone new
can't tell you if I'm that who

but baby you've been on my mind
baby you've been on my mind
don't want to waste no more time
baby you've been on my mind

too much for me to say
I might scare you away
a sudden glance and then a stare
don't feel like this game is fair

baby you've been on my mind
baby you've been on my mind
feel like I'm wasting time
baby you've been on my mind

talk to me like I'm yours
but you don't open any doors
and I'm blind 'cause I can't see
that you've been looking at me

baby you've been on my mind
baby you've been on my mind
feel my loving and..
baby you've been on my mind

time is catching up with me
too many things unsaid
I try not to believe
all the things in my head

baby you've been on my mind
baby you've been on my mind
looks like I missed my ride
baby you've been on my mind.

Your Bloody Flower

Written By: Dylan Singh

Lover, why did you try to push me away?
lover, why don't you ask me to stay?
lover, I've lost something I won't find
and lover, I'm in an unusual state of mind

lover, don't you know what you've broken?
a place for you still exists
Lover, don't you know the pain your causing?
like a crucifix

still I'll be sitting here working the hours
writing a poem signed 'your bloody flower'

another, was why you left me in the cold
another, made me cheap enough to be sold
another, isn't that the one who stole your heart?
don't bother, trying to find me when it all falls apart

you know what frightens me, is when life is so hard
this weight that burdens me, might be too much for my heart
grief on the outside, the hurt it stays within
it's like someone's kicking you, after saying you didn't win

still I'll be sitting here talking to shadows
writing a poem signed 'your bloody flower'

mother, all my tears have dried into shame
and mother, why do I feel i am to blame?
fading, my heart has all but died
making, a joke of the tears that I cried

still I'll be sitting here working the hours
writing a poem signed 'your bloody flower'.
