Dynamic Truth

As the new resurgence of live Hip-Hop shows begins to take shape, it’s great to see both the “New” Bay and the “Old” Bay rocking the same stage on the same night. On Saturday night at the Rockit Room in San Francisco the new up-and-coming group Dynamic Truth held an event that featured the likes of Oakland vet Do DAT, the rebellious Brwn Bflo and Bay legend Rappin 4Tay.
Although I missed the performances of DAT and Brwn Bflo, I had the pleasure of checking out Beatroplis, a Rock/Hip-Hop/ Reggae group that had the crowd moving to their infectious music. The highlight of their set was when they invited people from the audience to come up andfreestyle. DAT, Wrenegade, 4Tay and more all beasted the mic.
Being in the building to see someone as legendary as Rappin 4Tay perform was a cold slice of life. The whole venue was rockin, even though only the front half knew who he really was. With his hair freshly pressed and his pimp swagger rockin, I fully expected Dru Down to pop up on stage for an OG cameo. He performing about 5 songs while also mixing in Mac Dre and 2pac instrumentals. With his presence and dope call and response skills, his set was better then I imagined it would be.
Some of you have never heard of Dynamic Truth, but the truth is you better get to know their name. Mixing Hip-Hop with every kind of music you can imagine, they were on a mission to show that it is possible to integrate different kinds of music and still come out with an amazing product. Working through a couple technical difficulties, they rocked the crowd with the up-tempo “Get On” and brought it back down to a lower level with my personal favorite “Lost In My Dreams.”
The tough part about being in a group that is as musically talented as Dynamic is, is how to manage sharing the spotlight with everyone. G-Saleem, the lyricist of the group bended his verses around the soul-moving guitar rifts of Sam Shwartz. Using the accents of a trumpet and saxaphone, along with epic drums and bass, their chemistry was evident even though they have been together less then a year.
Sam and G-Saleem connected on the last days before they graduated from Skyline High School in 05' and scribbled their phone numbers on scraps of paper. Fast forward to 5 years later when G found the piece of paper and decided to call Sam up. The rest is history. Rocking everywhere from Rudsdale Continuation School to an older white man’s birthday party in the hills, Dynamic Truth was slowly formed. Bringing in friends and even a brother, Issac Shwartz the drummer, they have become one of the dopest up and coming live acts around.
