"Duo featured in music showcase"

Dynamix Stays Local With Hip-Hop
By Katherine Blackmore

Right now, young hip-hop duo Dynamix are just trying to make a name for themselves and the city they live in. So far they've done well, opening for acts such as E-40 and Bosko, with an album release aimed for early November.

Consisting of Mighty Mouse and Rez, both 17, the Portland-based group wants to make their home recognizable when it comes to hip-hop.

"We're trying to put Portland on the industry map so everybody can recognize it without asking any questions," Mighty Mouse said.

They both started young, around the age of 10, freestyling with homemade lyrics and beats.

Beyond their compelling stage presence, with Mighty Mouse's high energy and Rez' chill attitude, the group has creative, intellectual lyrics.

It's a good balance."

Dynamix will be part of a showcase featuring northwest hip-hop talent during the Music Fest Northwest and Jus Family Records Showcase on Friday, Sept. 9 at the Roseland Theatre at 8 p.m.

Other featured players will include E-40, Bosko, Cool Nutz, Maniac Lok, Potluck, E-Dawg and special guest DJ Chill. The Roseland Theatre is located at 8 N.W. 6th Ave.

"Music with a message grabs youths' attention"

Two 16-year-old rappers, one from Gresham and one from NE Portland, were challenged by TriMet to create a MAX safety song that's now capturing the attention of Portland area youth.
Dynamix rap duo Mathias "Mighty Mouse" Mauk and Richard "Nurez" Shearn had been rappin' about a year when Craig Fondren of Sabin Community Development Corp recommended them to TriMet for the job. They were given important MAX safety tips to convert to hip lyrics in a rap format.
Although the topic was "new and tough" for them to wrap their style around, they found they were able to get into the groove and cut Chillaxin' on the MAX.

Partnerships get the message out
Chillaxin' debuted at the "Good in the Neighborhood Parade" on June 26, where it was played from a TriMet bus rigged with speakers. It became an instant hit in the North Portland community.
Sabin Community Development Corporation and Portland Community Media are filming a public service announcement using the music, in conjunction with Urban Living Maps, which wrote the announcement and is designing the CD cover and tray card. KBOO offered to edit the song to a 30-second radio spot.
Other opportunities to hear the song
• Dynamix performs at the "PGE Score One for Safety" Beavers game on the Saturday, Aug. 14.
• TriMet will make 3,000 copies of the CD for distribution at schools and community events this fall.
• Download Chillaxin' from trimet.org starting late-August.

Still working on that hot first release.

These young men contribute to the production of every song. They are drawing strong interest from the California area as well as receiving positive feedback via local fans and radio stations. They frequently perform in area talent showcases including billing as featured artists at the 2003 Juneteenth Celebration, Alberta Street Fair, Fred Meyer Grand opening, opening for E-40, Jammin 95.5 Street team events, and they are favorites of the BuckHead Z100 morning show. Dynamix is striving to accomplish what other Northwest rappers have failed to do in the past. They want to put the Northwest on the industry map. Their goal is to capture the industry and leave them breathless. What sets them apart from other rappers is their lyrical ability and powerful stage presence. They are currently working on their first full length album, From club joints to comedy. From political subjects to personal ones. This album will enlighten their fans to the young men behind this talented duo. The duo consists of Mighty Mouse, who offers high energy and the more laid back Nurez. This variance in delivery makes for the perfect contrast......the formula that makes them DyNaMiX! New and innovative! The times call for it and DyNaMiX is answering.
