"NMM Radio"

“Your tune was awesome, and we look forward to having you all become a cornerstone in a brand new music median.”
- Jeff Tamelier House of Hansen Productions, LLC NMM Radio

“Former band mates in several central California rock outfits in the late '80s, bassist Steve Jeffrey and drummer John Cardoso later found jazz and re-found each other. Adding sax, piano, and other lead instruments, they formed this ensemble. The tight group plays with a glowing fusion sheen, but also betrays its rock roots with pulsing drums and climactic phrasing. “

"CD Baby Reviews"

Listening to the talent on this CD is like listening to the best of the best.
Reviewer: PapaDean
I mixed Steve and John's East of West with Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Patrick Ki and B B King. Yes, quite a varity in styles. Yet, when Steve and John's music takes its turn in the mix, it is every bit as professional and entertaining as these world-renowned artists. Don't miss out on this one....

Jazzy rock with many iPod-worthy tracks!
Reviewer: Marion Garbo Seltzer
Crossing Borders' tracks are bass-driven without being bass-heavy. There's more complexity than you find in easy-listening music, with beat change-ups and creative chord choices, yet the effect is uplifting and appealing. Each track is distinct and there's good interplay between bass, keyboard, and sax. Crossing Borders is definitely worth buying and then downloading to your iPod for good musical company while you exercise, do daily chores, or dance around your living room in your sock feet. - CDBaby.com

"Carroll Center 2006 Performance Review"

ON BEHALF OF THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION AND THE CARROLL CENTER, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EAST OF WEST FOR YOUR EXTRAORDINARY PERFORMANCE. THIS WAS THE MOST SUCCESSFUL AND ENJOYABLE EVENT WE’VE HAD TO DATE. YOUR MUSIC APPEARED TO CAST A SPELL OF JOY AND HAPPINESS ON ALL OF US IN THE AUDIENCE.

ALTHOUGH IT IS MODERN JAZZ; FOR ME, IT CARRIES A CERTAIN SPECIAL SPIRITUALITY BALANCED PERFECTLY WITH A TONE OF VITALITY AND ENERGY. BEFORE HEARING YOUR GROUP, I LIKED JAZZ, BUT AFTER THE PERFORMANCE, I LOVED IT.

- MICHAEL ROSEN, CARROLL CENTER, BOSTON, MA

"Canada's Smooth Jazz Connection."

“East of West is appropriately a bi-coastal affair helmed by Steve Jeffrey and John Cardoso. Their Crossing Borders debut presents nine originals that masterfully navigate the somewhat tricky waters that bridge the varying shades of jazz.”

"Le Jazz Affair.com"

"The music of East of West brings a high energy and hard driven sound to jazz. This is the kind of jazz that makes you want to jump in your car and drive. I could spend hours listening to their music and do. They are often featured on my internet radio show"

- Sal Calfa -Le Jazz Affair.com

"Not Too Smooth Jazz"

"Crossing Borders is fantastic!! Normally, the only CD's that get uploaded in their entirety to my station are maybe...Spyro Gyra's new releases, or Acoustic Alchemy, maybe. But to receive something from somebody I've never heard of, and just fall in love with it...well, I've got goose bumps! It's electrifying stuff, no kidding!” - Donna Savoy, Not Too Smooth Jazz, Live365.com

Bio

East of West is more than just a band name, but rather the story of two artists with one vision - to create “feel good” music!

Steve Jeffrey, bassist, and John Cardoso, drummer, are the co-writers and producers who create the magic behind East of West. Crossing Borders, a collection of life-inspired jazz, features performances by world-renowned musicians: Andy Suzuki (David Benoit, Kilauea, Dave Brubeck, Chick Corea), Ron Pedley (Barry Manilow, Air Supply, Kombo), and Bob Fernandez (Barry Manilow, Frank Zappa, Dionne Warwick, Tito Puente).

Crossing Borders packs a roller coaster ride of high-energy rhythms, sharp turning peaks of fusion, and smooth melodic transitions that effortlessly move the listener across a wide-ranging sonic landscape of contemporary jazz.

At the time of production Steve resided in Boston while John was living in Los Angeles, hence the synergistic name East of West. These two long-time friends reunited in Boston to embark and collaborate on their musical aspirations and unique writing styles. Subsequently, Steve and John rejoined in Los Angeles to record and produce Crossing Borders at The Complex Recording Studios.

Three weeks into East of West’s first radio
Steve Jeffery is a graduate of Boston’s Berklee College of Music, John Cardoso is a graduate from both the Grove School of Music and Five Towns College, with each of them majoring in Composition and Performance.
