Bio

The East River Bandits, NYC's own Texas-style country band, almost never happened. Rob Lilly, a Texas transplant had pretty much given up on playing music, only occasionally playing acoustic sets at a local watering hole. One afternoon Dan Sweeney, lead guitarist of rock group Acquiesce, stopped in to watch a sporting event on TV and heard Lilly playing a rare country cover he recognized.

Sweeney had recently returned from a tour of Ireland having purchased a mandolin but with no real outlet for it's unique sound. After meeting up and discovering a host of mutual friends and music interests, the two started getting together for weekly jam sessions that evolved into the first rehearsals of the group.

Tim Besa, a college roommate of Sweeney's, was quickly added to the rehearsals on bass. Only one ingredient was needed and with the addition of Vin Cimino on drums, The East River Bandits had finally arrived.

Their raucous blend of traditional country and rock makes for electrifying shows that leave audiences wanting more. The shows grew to such a level that the band decided to launch a Kickstarter Campaign to fund their debut record. Within three weeks the band had raised over $16,000 just from fans and word of mouth.

With Rich Liegey on board to produce the band hit the studio and pumped out an 11 song album titled, “Down The Road”. The album was released independently at a SOLD OUT show on December 20th 2012 at New York’s Mercury Lounge and is available on all major services. The first major follow up show was an opening slot for Shooter Jennings at The Bowery Ballroom.
