Classic and Progressive Rock influenced Blues Band

Biography

Although formed in the early summer of 2006, East River Ratz legacy can be traced back to a late 80's Progressive Rock band called "The Effect", where Guitarist Matty O'Neill, Bassist Chuck Thurau and Keyboardist Pete Zed first hooked up. Almost twenty years later, the boys have once again joined forces, this time with Justin Gilbert on drums to form the "Ratz". ERR plays the blues like nobody's business. Their early progressive influences helps to put a unique slant on the Classic Blues and the Rock and Roll that followed.

Lyrics

Chaos is Constant

Written By: Chuck Thurau

If I told you all, my dirty little secrets
Could you keep them ‘til your dying day?
Exposing all our deepest regrets,
We’ve got a debt and it’s time to pay-
People on the streets, begging for money,
Empty souls with nowhere to go-
Disengaged and disconnected,
Somewhere there’s a ray of light
That’s Shining down—

Rob ourselves of joy too often,
Chasing dollars with fists full of pennies-
Our Spirits’ sick, our souls lie coughing,
Never enough for a few too many-
Bills to pay and babies to feed,
All we ever wanted was to get our piece-
So we justify, we cheat and we lie.
Somewhere there’s a ray of light
That’s shining down—
Chorus 1:
Addicted to the rush of pretty new things
We’re all conditioned by the TV screen-
Chaos is constant in the world today,
Better watch who you talk to and
Watch what you say-
Comfort is the drug, there’s a monkey on your back
What happened to the truth and what about the facts?
Chaos is constant in the world today
There’s spirits to be crushed
And money to be made

If you can’t find your own desire
And move beyond the walls of fear-
If you can’t ignite your inner fire,
Tell me, what the hell are you doing here?
When you question the choices that you make
And, accept the abuse that you take,
Rise above this mask of Delusion,
There’s a ray of light that’s shining down—
Chorus 2:
Addicted to the rush of being number one,
The games long over and the damage is done-
Chaos is constant in the world today,
There are spirits to crush and souls to save-
Comfort is the drug, the monkey on your back
Forget about the truth and never mind the facts
Chaos is constant in the world today
There’s blood to spill and money to be made-
Politicians with game show smiles,
Selling fear with sparkly eyes-
Chaos is constant in the world today,
There’s blood to spill and money to be made-
Pro-life preachers with bibles and guns
Anoint themselves the chosen ones,
Chaos is constant in the world today,
Chaos is constant in the world today-

Eye of a Butterfly

Written By: Chuck Thurau

Caught up in the in between
Of economics and a sacred dream
Strung out on TV and caffeine
Living in a cruel world-
Destination – hypocrisy
Celebrate mediocrity
The modern day philosophy
Living in a cruel world-
Hold on, What’s in it for me?
When we’re living in a cruel world

Robbing Peter and robbing Paul
Acting like you’re ten feet tall
‘scuse me while I take this call
Living in a cruel world
Paying with your dignity,
A quick fix to set you free
A new twist on the same old scene,
Living in a cruel world-
A repackaged bad dream
When you’re living in a cruel world—
Bridge:
Sometimes – I don’t know why,
A stranger’s smile makes me feel alive-
Like a flip of the switch inside
Makes me feel like I’m human
Butterflies across my sky,
The Quite calm in a baby’s eye-
Brings me back to life again,
Makes me feel like I’m human—
Chorus:
In the eye of a butterfly,
Is where the secret lies-
Like the truth you can’t deny,
Makes me feel like I’m human-
Rays of ebony sunshine,
Flash across my blue sky,
Like waking up in paradise
Makes me feel like I’m human-
In the eye of a butterfly,
Makes me feel so alive-
Like Hercules and Einstein combined,
Makes me feel like a new man-
It’s the truth you can’t deny,
Makes me feel like a new man—

Better Without You

Written By: Chuck Thurau

Every time I see your face,
The venom leaves a bitter taste-
Every time I hear your voice
I never will regret that choice-
I made,
So long ago,
When I had,
To let you go,
I really,
Didn’t know,
What was on my mind-
Now I’m so much better,
Without you-
Better without you-

When I hear you curse my name
Icicles flow through my veins,
When I walk alone at night,
I know that everything’s alright-
I hope,
You’re all right,
But it don’t,
Keep me up at night-
I really
Did feel bad,
I’m so glad you’re gone
Life is so much better without you-
Better without you-
Better without you-

Every time I close my eyes
I think of you and wonder why-
When I think what might have been
I can’t hold back this silly grin
I wish,
You all the best
But I know,
That you’re a mess
I really
Did feel bad
But the pain is gone-
Life is so much better without you-
Better without you-
Better without you-
