Bio
Born in Cape Coast, Ghana in 1936, the Ghanaian guitarist Ebo Taylor is truly an icon of African music. Starting over 50 years ago when he started playing professionally with the legendary big band highlife group Broadway Band, through his studies (along with his best friend Fela Kuti) in London, to his work with famous bands such as the Stargazers, Uhuru, his own Pelikans, though his work as composer and arranger for the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and the Essiebons label, where he fathered bands such as Sweet Beans and Marijata, to his work as composer and musical director for singers such as CK Mann and Pat Thomas, Ebo has established himself as a true African musical giant. He continues to be productive with a new album coming in 2010: a blend of afrofunk and highlife with the Berlin based Afrobeat Academy. The Afrobeat Academy is an international group of musicians drawn from such bands as: Poets of Rhythm, Karl Hector and the Malcouns and Jimi Tenor's Kabu Kabu.
