Northern Edge Music Magazine Interview

NE: For those not familiar with Echoplane, tell us about the band?

Echoplane is made up of 5 people:
Shannon Mcnutt – Lead Singer
Brian Mcnutt – Bass Guitar and Lead/Background Vocals
Jim "BUCK" Berger – Guitars and Background Vocals
Eric Rudh – Guitars
Brandt Johnson – Drums/Percussion

and

Ted Fiskness - FOH Sound
Dave Mcnutt - Lighting

Echoplane was the brainchild of 3 people from Alexandria, MN. Brian, Shannon, and Brandt... Echoplane was formed in May of 2008 by accident I guess you could say. Brian and Shannon were looking for a couple of guitar players, and Buck and Eric were looking for a bassist and singer, it all seem to come together so perfectly!! So the 5 of us met in a basement one evening in May and over a few cold ones, discussed and planned the debut of Echoplane.

NE: Does the band do original music, covers, a mix of both?

Currently Echoplane is focused mainly on non-typical cover music. And what is meant by that is, the band is focusing on music that you won't hear every other local cover band play, but you WILL recognize. We are not trying to find the most obscure songs that no one has ever heard of, we are just focusing on songs that get regular airplay, but for some reason, cover bands have never picked up on. However, there are plans in the near future to start collaborating musically and start writing together.

NE: Tell us a little about the music you play and why it represents the band as a whole.

As I said earlier, we are focusing on covers that you normally would not hear from your average cover band. A few bands that have influenced us all are RUSH, TRIUMPH, LED ZEPPLIN, STYX, just to name a few. What has been refreshing about this band is the fact that everyone HAD been doing the typical band scene for years and we were all ready for something different to be a part of. We all have definitely found that something in Echoplane.

NE: What is the bands live experience like?

ENERGY, in one simple word, ENERGY, with a top of the line crew and gear, the band can focus on the music and putting on a show and not have to be worried about the production side of things from the stage. Being a part of a band that can pull off Rush and Zepplin songs is a thrilling experience from stage and that energy is easily transferred to the crowd!!

NE: Playing all over the regional area, what are some of the highlights of your time as a band?

Well, so far this band has been a truly great experience. We know how to party on and off the stage, and a bottle of Captain Morgan is never to far out of reach. We also all know how to pull it together and get down to business when need be. With such a great group of people that are involved with this project, every time we play is a highlight.

NE: What is ahead in the future for the band?

Only great things are in store for Echoplane, it seems like everyday something exciting is coming our way and as we venture off into unexplored territory and make our mark in new venues, there are future fans lining up everywhere to see what all of the fuss is about.
