"First Effort Worth The Wait"

Eddie has really done great on his first album. "Traffic Light" brings back memories of the original Chuck Berry tunes. Wit and humor stand out in "One Good Woman", a song about a man looking for one good woman when he can't hope to meet their standards. Only two of the songs were not written by Eddie. "The Green Man" and "The Singer" were written by his brother Robert. The song "Last Man Standing" has a great organ solo by Bird Youmans, a former bandmember of Frank Zappa. This is a great CD for a fellow who waited till he retired to record his first album. In the words of "The Singer" He's still the same old young boy inside.

"Review of "Last Man Standing""

Sex, Women, and Rock & Roll, Served Up with a Sense of Humor.

Last Man Standing is an entertaining new CD featuring classic rock & roll served up in familiar country style. But Eddie Rhoades, who wrote these songs, has definitely developed unique fun-loving music reminiscent of John Fogerty, Jimmy Buffett, and Chuck Berry, all wrapped up into one. Eddie's distinctive voice has a lot of character and I guarantee it will grow on you. Who could ask for more? The CD starts out with a great rock & roll tune, One Good Woman, that will get you dancing around the room. There are several really good dancing songs on this CD with plenty of great rocking guitar and keyboard, including Lightning Quick, Traffic Light, and Here Kitty. The jacket notes for this last song say children will love to sing along with the chorus, but look out for the sexual innuendoes. In fact, most of the songs on this CD are full of clever lyrics about sex, women, and rock & roll life, all served up with a sense of humor, of course. The other tracks are pretty good listening as well. Rock Bottom Bar, a melodic Willie Nelson-style ballad that describes the regrets of a dive bar musician, will have you singing along. A really nice Caribbean song is Island Girl, that features some beautiful guitar work by Eddie. The title track, Last Man Standing, is dominated by nostalgic organ performances played in classic early 60s style by producer Bird Youmans, who also stands out on Green Man, a catchy tune about gardening till you turn green. (Eddie is, among other things, a Lifetime Master Gardener.) Only two of the songs are not performed by Eddie. The Singer, written by Eddie's younger brother Robert Rhoades, is a sentimental tribute to his brother, and I believe he really means what he says. Beginning of the End is a sad country song performed by Eddie's daughter Amanda Flanagan. It's the classic tear jerker, so if you have ever been there and done that, you will love the way she sings it. Jim Howe's violin solos are the perfect compliment. I enjoyed hearing the CD so much that I recommend it to my friends, who all agree with me when I say that Last Man Standing is a wonderful first effort. I hope Eddie Rhoades keeps on writing and keeps on singing too. I promise to keep on listening.

Bio

Music is my life. I am a big fan of traditional rock & roll and country so my own music tends to go in that direction but my songwriting covers many genres. I have one CD of ten original songs - all different styles, from boogie to blues to rock, country, novelty tunes, childrens music, island, waltz and more. Our song “Green Man” is getting air time on Walter Reeves' Garden Show plus KSFO in California which is Bob Tanem’s gardening show with half a million listeners. I have been playing guitar for a long time and I enjoy songwriting. I refer to myself as a performing songwriter. I play open mic locally at various places including the famous Eddie’s Attic, Crystal Bar, Ragamuffin Music, I have performed in Scotland and in Gulf Shores, Alabama at the Frank Brown International Songwriter’s Festival and the Amelia Island wsongwriter Festival, I won the Talent Contest aboard the Carnival cruise ship, was opening act at Durango for Songwriter Showcase, played 3 venues in 3 days in Nashville in June 2008. Also performed at numerous venues at the Amelia Island, Florida songwriter festival. I am a member of Nashville Songwriter's Association International and I am looking to perform at any songwriter showcase, music festival or other venue where I can play and showcase my songs. I am available to play at house parties at reasonable prices. Though I may play an occasional slow song, for the most part my songs are peppy numbers that wake you up and make you want to dance. I also am a bit of a stand-up comedian emcee if needed.
