Bio

I am a singer, songwriter and guitar player from the Sweetgrass First Nation in Saskatchewan. I was raised in Vancouver, BC and spent over 10 years in Santa Cruz, California, where I first started writing and performing with my first band. At the age of 29, I returned to Vancouver to start Vancougar, an all girl band that went on to win CiTRs Shindig! in 2004. The band has two studio albums, Losin It! (2005) and Canadian Tuxedo(2008), both of which were critically acclaimed.

Since 2012, I've spent more than a year working with producer Jesse Gander (Japandroids) in his studio at the Hive Creative Labs in Burnaby, BC. to create my debut solo album, Things Get Better. All twelve songs on the album were written and performed by me. Along with my contributions on vocals and guitar, some of Vancouvers finest musicians help round out the album with percussion, bass, strings and keyboards. The result is an intimate, personal, yet totally accessible confessional pop album.

Being aboriginal I've had a bit of struggles to overcome but life goes forward, as I say, sad things happened and so songs were written. The songs I write tell a story of my life, the hard times, the good, the losses and the fact that I'm still moving ahead and holding on. If you listen to my whole cd the way the songs go in order it's telling a story, I felt like that was the proper way to list the songs.

As a 3rd generation survivor of the Indian Residential School legacy, I feel that I bring a unique and important voice to modern Canadian pop. Quite a number of people can relate to my music, it's confessional and chances are something similar has happened to them along the way, and things will be okay and things will get better.
