EDEN’S CURSE

SUPER SHINY MELODIC ROCK TAILOR MADE FOR FIREFEST BRETHREN

SHOUT NOW if you still crave the precise, angular melodic rock that bands like Dokken used to specialise in? Is there an echo in here? Though the UK market favours more challenging fare, Eden’s Curse have made a superb genre record that will send Firefest regulars into paroxysms of joy. From opener Masquerade Ball to closer Ride The Storm, each track either cuts in on incisive riffs or floatily weaves a path toward gleaming hooks. Angels & Demons witnesses a duet with one time Queensryche acolyte Pamela Moore. Better still is Raven’s Revenge, hooks big enough to wage war on continents. If outrageous talent in familiar form is what you crave, look no further.

Chances are you probably gave up on today’s music scene generating a band like Eden’s Curse. Well, you were wrong – thankfully. With Iron Maiden’s Bruce Dickinson among those lavishing praise upon their classy, sophisticated and defiantly tuneful hard rock sound, the US/European quintet (bassist Paul Logue is Scottish, drummer Pete Newdeck an Englishman) have wasted little time in preparing album number two. Crammed to bursting point with hooks and sizzling guitar solos to straddle the fine line between silky melodic rock and the heavy metal’s lighter side, The Second Coming (such modesty, boys!) deserves the fuss it seems to be causing. Pink Cream 69/Krokus producer Dennis Ward has once again delivered a crisp, bright sound to maximise the commercial potential of Masquerade Ball and the belting Lost Soul, while Pamela Moore – AKA Sister Mary from Queensrÿche’s Operation: Mindcrime – duets with Michael Eden on the robust Angels & Demons.

"EDEN'S CURSE - THE SECOND COMING"

The second album by the international quintet, who marked a healthy sales with the self-titled debut album in Japan, without having any (really) well-known members in the band. In that sense, the expectations were
obviously high, but they have delivered another album that lives up to the expectations. Their style of melodic heavy metal/hard rock is very authentic, and the players know so well about what's good in this kind of style that they manage to deliver such songs that capture the magic, which is their best appeal more than anything. Heavy and beautiful at the same time. They have thoroughly realized universalistic standards (songs) that do not follow the trend in such a high level. Song #3 features duets with Pamela Moore, known by "Operation: Mindcrime" by Queensryche, and such singers as Doogie White, Carsten Schulz, Tony Harnell participated on backing vocals.

Singer Michael Eden doesn't like to be humble and fires out huge marketing statements. According to Eden, "The Second Coming", 13 track powerhouse album of his band Eden's Curse, is nothing less than one of the beste Melodic Metal releases of the decade. Well, that indeed might be overmuch loudmouth talking, but as each artist should be proud and confident about his work, there's nothing to complain about. It might not be one of the best of the decade, but the guys surely burn a melodic bonfire! Each song a little masterpiece with slick arrangements, fine and sweet chorus parts and spectacular guitar solo (the virtuoso's name is Thorsten Koehne. As guests Eden's Curse for example pull legendary singer Pamela Moore (Queensryche's Sweet Sister Mary) out of the hat, add again a perfect production by Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, Angra) and backing vox by Doogie White (Rainbow, Cornerstone). Sounds awesome, right? ...And it is, indeed! Might not be the best of the decade, but a must buy for sure and strongly recommended!

Anyone who thought the Queensryche Empire phase could have lastet a little bit longer should check out this album. In it´s best moments the quintett sounds very much like the 1990 masterpiece from the Seattle ex-gods ecpecially in the guitar department. In other moments "The Second Coming" still is a very fine album between melodic US power metal and anthemic poser-rock. EC manage to have great hooklines whilst avoiding embarrasing clichés. Only the ballad "Man Against The World" is horribly corny. But as soon as the mighty Hammond organ and the as well mighty intro riff to "Raven´s Revenge" starts everything´s good again.

Bio

In late August 2007 the Rock and Metal world witnessed the birth of EDEN’S CURSE, a multi-national Melodic Metal group with its members spanning four countries and two continents. Formed in January 2006 by chief songwriter and Bassist, Scotsman Paul Logue (David Readman / ex-Cry Havoc) and United States born and bred Vocalist Michael Eden (ex-Seven Ten), these two musicians hatched a plan to form a group utilizing the wonders of modern technology and in particular the world wide web. Armed with nothing but passion, spirit and an uncompromising batch of hyper rock songs they found German guitar virtuoso Thorsten Koehne (Code Of Perfection / ex-Demon Drive / ex-Attack) and English Drummer Pete Newdeck (Steve Grimmett Band / ex-Paul Dianno’s Killers / ex-Lionsheart / ex-The Shock), before experienced German keyboard player Ferdy Doernberg (Axel Rudi Pell / Rough Silk / Therion / Taraxacum / ex-Uli Jon Roth) completed the line-up in June 2006.

With heavy weights such as producer and Pink Cream 69 bassist Dennis Ward (Angra / Krokus / Silent Force / Place Vendome / Allen & Lande) secured at the production helm and band colleague David Readman (Pink Cream 69 / Voodoo Circle / ex-Adagio), as well as Doogie White (Cornerstone / Empire / ex-Rainbow / ex-Yngwie Malmsteen) and Carsten Schulz (Evidence One / Roger Staffalbach’s Angel Of Eden / Midnite Club / ex-Domain) on backing vocals, in their corner, the group signed to AFM Records (Europe), Metal Mayhem Music (USA), Spiritual Beast (Japan) and Dynamo Records (Brazil) and their album not only burst but more like exploded onto the scene in late August 2007 to critical acclaim.

The group faired extremely well in the 2007 end of year votes throughout the global Rock & Metal press with the highlights being voted Best Newcomer of 2007 by RockUnited.Com readers, Best Metal/Prog Album 2007 by MelodicRock.com and Thorsten Koehne being awarded Guitarist of the Year 2007, also by MelodicRock.com.

In June 2008 the band released a limited edition rare E.P. “Seven Deadly Sins – The Acoustic Sessions” via their US label Metal Mayhem Music. Featuring seven renditions of tracks from the acclaimed debut in a laid back MTV-Unplugged type setting the E.P. is quickly becoming a collector’s item amongst EDEN’S CURSE followers.
Fast forward four months later and EDEN’S CURSE make an unexpected yet triumphant return with their sophomore release “The Second Coming”.

Once again production duties are handled by Dennis Ward as the band have truly "upped the ante" in terms of song writing, performance and production. This is simply going to be a monster of a release that will build upon the success of the self titled debut album. Many in the industry feel this album alone by itself will now cement the arrival of EDEN’S CURSE as truly a name to be reckoned with!

Assisting Michael Eden (Vocals), Thorsten Koehne (Guitar), Paul Logue (Bass), Pete Newdeck (Drums) and Ferdy Doernberg (Keys) in creating this huge wall of sound is none other than the voice of TNT, Starbreaker, Westworld and now a solo artist - Tony Harnell who sings backing vocals on the entire record.

Doogie White once again returns to the aid the “Curse Choir” along with the ever present Carsten Schulz.

Also featured is vocalist Pamela Moore best known for her performance as Sister Mary on Queensrÿche's 1988 epic release "Operation: Mindcrime" and 2006's sequel "Operation: Mindcrime II", who duets with Michael Eden on the incredible Power Metal Anthem "Angels & Demons".

Frontman Michael Eden comments "With the assistance of Dennis Ward, the “Curse Choir” and our personal graphic artist Thomas Ewerhard (Asia/ Edguy/ Avantasia/ Jorn/ Masterplan) and the amazing talent of his photographer of choice Steffi Veenstra (Doro/ Tankard/ Vanden Plas) I believe EDEN’S CURSE are ready to ignite even the biggest melodic naysayer. My boys and I will deliver an ass kicking few have seen in a decade or more for our type of music, and that I'll lay our reputation on. Trust me when I say ... EDEN’S CURSE will deliver the goods like very few can in 2008. There is good, there is great and then there is freaking amazing! You be the judge. The music will do the talkin' in October!!".

Bassist Paul Logue adds “I always said that the success of EDEN’S CURSE would be judged on whether we deliver a second album or not and here we are a mere fourteen months later with a brand studio record! Now it’s time to take this to the STAGE! Promoters take note”!
If 2007 was the birth then 2008 is the baptism and we aren’t talking about a glass of bubbly, a slice of cake and a cuddle of the baby here folks! This bombastic volume alone will cause wimps to scatter like cockroaches under a spotlight!

“The Second Coming” was released in Japan via Spiritual Beast/Universal on 15th October, North America via Metal Mayhem Music on 22nd October and finally in Europe via AFM Records on 24th October.
